What to expect with place diverter on a Berkeley JE pump
« on: April 29, 2015, 08:19:35 PM »
I have a 79 sleekcraft rebel with a mild 454 BBC engine. It has a Berkeley JE pump and I have ordered a manual place diverter for it. Cant wait till it gets here. Can someone tell me what to expect as far a roost goes, I know there for making the boat go faster but I think the roost is cool as hell and want to shoot a big one if its possible. Don't know if mine has the split bowl thing or not or even if what it is. Not new to boating just new to this jet boat thing. Thanks in advance.

Split bowl refers to being able to unbolt the nozzle from the pump, a JE pump is not normally a "split bowl" unless it has a place diverter kit on it.

The place diverter is a trim for a jet. There will be an elevation that makes your boat perform best. It's like having a trim on an out board. It can work against you as well. If you run it all the way up its just for looks. It will eat gas if you run it all the way up all the time

It won't be a huge one on a manual diverter. You will need a rooster booster to make it huge. Keep in mind. Bending the water loses HP keeping the water in a straight line as possible going threw and out the pump. Yes if you trim you hull to ride less on the water, less friction more speed. But at the cost of bending the water. So in reality setting up proper pump angel with wedges and a ride plate is better. My 2 cents
This is about all the roost you'll get maybe a wee bit bigger. Unless you have a droop with angel in it and even then it's only a little bit taller. Guys out there with huge roosters have the rooster booster or running a modified electric controlled diverter.

that's an e pump behind a bone stock 454 sure makes driving the boat nicer.

Here was my roost with a lil small block. And manual diverters are just fine all depends on how you set up the cable adjustment. Just have fun with it and don't don't spray to many seadoos. 😂

I machined the beveled edge off the back of the nozzle where it pivots. Bet I gained another 2 foot in height

Maybe I can do that with my place diverter when I get it, I will see if I can figure out what you are talking about.

did the same exact thing on the diverter. You can almost make the bucket arm bottom out on the diverter arm. Lol can't do much now, locked out 👎👎

Had to measure one.

They already pivot over 40-degrees

Locked at a certain angle so my boat doesn't blow over at high speeds.

E pumps do not have a flange on them. You cannot add wedge, rooster boster or anything. Basically you will have a roost as much as a the diverted will go up. Maybe about 10 degrees

U can change the location of steering   With a little work and glass work then u can run a droop and split bowl

Does anyone know if the place diverter kit that I will be installing on my Je pump can it be machined a little to give it more of an angle for a bigger roost? Sorry for all the questions but my 9 year old son and I have been working on this boat all winter and he is actually the one who dug up all the videos and pictures of the cool roosts that you guys shoot and he is bound and determined to make ours do that. Im sure its going to be fine the way it is but why not give it a try if it wont cost an arm and leg. Thought about maybe a different bowl that is split that will bolt on but not sure if its an option. So would like to know if machining the one I have will give me more an angle for a roost.

My advice is to throw the diverter on, take it for a spin then decide if you want to modify it. I wanted a bigger roost for a while, then got over it and became 100% satisfied lol

Won't a split bowl attach to a JE?
