Where should I mount my hydraulic unit for my place diverter???

I just received my kit to change over my place diverter to hydraulic . The pump is pretty heavy and the mount looks flimsy ... Where should I mount it

I was going to try under my rear seat , but the hydraulic lines might not be long enough ... I have no stringer room ..... Because I run logs ... I think it would get beat to death on the transom... Any ideas ??

i have mine mounted on the transom. i think thats where 99% of people put it. ive never heard of one falling off from rough conditions but im sure it has happened. you get the black plastic tubing or the braided stainless lines?

well if it were me i would put it on the transom. you said before about maybe putting it under you seat....thats a long way to push all that fluid to the hydraulic ram and back. and would be alot of line to mess with and worry about anyone stepping on it or kinking it or anything. would be alot cleaner looking on the transom. IMO

I put it on the transom , now I have a different problem ... :banghead:the ram Doesnt have enough throw to give me the roost that my manual did .... I can trim down to the stop nonproblem but I have 3/4 of a inch of travel left to go on the roost ... Can I loosen the helm joint to give me some more throw

The one thing I did post on here about that, the mounting, was I ended up putting a piece of rubber between the pump and the transom. Mine seemed to come loose every so often in rough water, and end up laying in the floor of the boat. As for your adjustment you should be able to get that at the small cylinder in the back

Can you post some pics of what you got going on there? I'm having a rough time visualizing why your hydraulic cylinder doesn't have enough "stroke" to run that diverter way past both of its physical limits, even if it's been ground/modified?

This is the bottom of the ram . The manual diverter would bottom out the heim on the steering plate..... You can see with the ram in the fully down position I have almost a inch to get to bottoming out .....

I had to flip the ram because the fittings would interfere with the forward reverse cable plate .... i am thinking I have the older version of the place diverter and this kit is designed for the newer one ....or JE pumps our just a pain in the ass.

Get a pic from the side showing the whole cylinder install. In the meantime, I see you have a JE pump, first, and second, you're never gonna cover that distance by backing out the heim joint (Which is at it's shortest length, BTW, so yeah, you can get quite a bit of that back).

I would be REAL cautious about getting it too close to the steering bracket, but obviously it can go quite a bit closer.....

OK, Obviously a Hydraulic conversion from manual, knew that. Looks installed properly, but it's been awhile since I seen a JE Hydraulic.

How much have you run it up/down to bleed all the air out, for one. Second, I would not have drilled the arm to mount the thing. I would have made an adaptor to bolt in where the cable used to go with a mount for the cylinder. Yes, that's how Place does it on theirs and their conversions, and yes I think it's stoopid not to machine or cast one simple part to make it more painless and just that much stronger. On a third note, you get much closer to that steering arm bracket and I'd be calling Pat to have a custom one machined. Hell he can prolly machine you an adaptor to go into the hole where your cable used to go with a trunion for the cylinder underneath. You'd have MORE than enough stroke then!

Seems to me the JE Hydraulic comes with such a contraption, but I've been wrong before.

Good thing is I own a cnc machine shop and already thought about machining a adapter to strengthen the whole deal and give me some more throw .... Just wanted to make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong before i went to town modifying it .... Thanks rebel i will post pics of the modifications I make .

I'd CNC design the adaptor I'm speaking of and replicate the piss out of it. This business of drilling the old cable bracket is just plain stoopid on Place's part. IMHO.

Gimme a call if you need help doing it, I'll be at the shop in the morning and can probably (time allowing) get my guy to whip up a preliminary in UniGraphics for ya. You got an idea what I'm talking about right? Threaded adaptor, goes in the hole and a big nylock, cross bolted nut on top.........

Heres what made today at my shop .... I made it the way Place diverter should have made it in the first place ..... I just made one for now on the manual lathe, and mill but plan on making a program for my CNCs when I am not as busy at work . I used 303 stainless steel .....
