Two small problems that have me perplexed.

BBC, open cooling system, JE pump, OT headers water cooled,

First, I'm having problems getting the engine to prime with water when I start the boat lately. Engine fires but pegs hot before the water begins to flow out the water exit at rear of boat. Never been an issue before. I've run a wire to make sure the water intake at the jet pump is clear. Lines are two years old. The "T" to both the headers and the engine seem free of rust and crap. Seems only when I undo the hose cap (for hooking hose to run in driveway) and burping it there does the boat finally get water thru the system.

Second, I took out the electric fuel tank switching unit (lets you use left or right tank), and now the tanks won't drain at the same rate. I'm worried I'll be sucking air when the one tank is drained of fuel. Why won't the tanks drain at the same rate? One is nearly empty and the other appears full.

Hook the hose up and disconnect the hoses in the thermostat housing and see if u get water out of them . It’s possible that u have sand In ur block and is restricting water flow , another thing to look at is ur freeze plugs , pull them and flush . Trust me I have seen this soooooo many times . Problems solved I guess.

I just went back to the fuel tank switching system and it seems to work fine. Just like it always has.

I am getting an air lock or bubble at the pump and it's not letting H2O into the engine unless I "burp" it or let the boat sit in the water a bit. At least I know what the problem is and can counteract it.

First couple of times I went out after installing my Bassetts mine did this.  I had to manually bleed the water neck, it solved itself after two or three trips, not sure what the issue was.

As soon as it starts, rev it up a bit to purge the pump of air. I back in to just before the point of full flotation and then start it and goose it to prime the pump.  It primes faster with the reverse gate open.
