Stayed near Martinez
« on: May 26, 2008, 09:44:49 AM »
Had a great day Sat. although it was a little cold. Okay at times I was freezing. Funny when the water is warmer than the breeze. But we ended up on a sandbar right next to the "No Ski Upriver buoys instead of going all the way to Picacho. We had our own little private island from about 9am to 11am when two little boats with ancient whackers (read pull start) stopped to work on their little motor (mounted to an 11' aluminum boat). I was surprised because it was pretty rough then. I kept imagining them getting swamped!!! Anyway after they left a real nice couple with their 4 y/o son stopped. Then a big family with a couple of wave runners and a pontoon joined us. I think I saw marksrollin go by while those guys were workin on their motor. Not sure if he has a texas tunnel style hull. Colors looked right. So we kicked it till 3:30 when Sue ran out of beer and then headed home. We stayed home Sun. and relaxed with plans to head back today. Well we got a call last night from Sue's middle daughter that she was moving back in with us today so no river today!!! :'( We'll be back out there next weekend!  ;D

That's what I refer to as the first sandbar. Marc usually goes up to the second sandbar in his Tahiti (V bottom). Picacho is even further up river. A cold day on the river is better than a warm day at work, or at home, or at...

saw two brown boats go by, first was the tunnel, and didn't really get a good look at the second. To me first sand bar was always the beach area on right just past martinez entrance since this sandbar wasn't there last year and I've only been going here two summers now. Yeah he mentioned he was going to the second. Man was that one packed!!! I could see it pretty good from where I was. The two boats that joined us mentioned they tried there first but it was underwater, no beach and too busy for their little kids.

Didn't see you go by, but I was lookin for your boat not the flatty. How did the flatty ride in that rough stuff. Man it got rough for a while. My v hull cut through it pretty good. I was thinking of getting a texas tunnel that the shop I go to has for sale. But I think I'll stay with my v hull. Not to mention the tunnel is center steering and set up for racing with lightweight layup. It would be fun to build it up, but just don't have the money. Havin enough trouble finishing my current boat lol. We'll be out there again this weekend, probably Sunday. We're definitely trying to go to the Parker gathering, at least up for the day Saturday.
