Thinking of buying a place at one of these parks. What are the pluses and minus of each? Which one would you choose and why? Looks like the space rents are about the same. I know they both have fuel and a store. Aha Quin has the bar and restaurant. How do the stretches of river compare, proximity to popular sand bars, which one is better for wakeboarding (deeper water), what's better for jet boating (I do both), which is more of a party atmosphere and which is more family, etc. I prefer a quieter place.
Is the lagoon at Aha Quin a big plus because of the flat, open water? Does Aha Quin have more gear heads and race boats? Seems like your a lot closer to the ramp and beach at Waterwheel, which I like. What do you think?

Can't really go wrong either place. It really comes down to what do you spend your time doing most? I haven't been in AQ for a really long time but one thing that will never change is the river. Down river from WW a good distance is AQ. If you like to just float, drink, sun, fun, etc. the stretch between the two places is not busy at all and relatively straight and issue free. If you go down river from AQ and you have trouble, you are a long way from anything. If you have boat trouble downriver from WW, well you eventually end up at AQ. My personal favorite stretch of the river is between WW and Lost Lake. So so glassy for miles in the morning and evening. Any of you ever wonder about my screen name here? Well that is where it comes from. We called em "bug runs" because that is the very best time of day for a mad ski rip is right at dusk and just before the bugs come out.
The river is easy to read, and rarely a problem for jet boats with drivers who know what they are doing in both parks. WW is close to some bad ass sand dunes, but AQ has lots of fun off road stuff too, just no dunes. I would think that the lagoon area would be a nicer beach than WW has, but I dunno. Good stuff Glasscutter! Just the type of information I want to know. Never considered the river issues regarding boat trouble. Sand dunes are good!

Water wheel is a great park. I use to go there back in the day and loved it. It's a nice family park. They have a nice store and they do have a gas pump on site. Not in the water but it right in front of the store.

I didn't realize how hard financing is on Indian Land, so that changes everything. I'd like to spend 40k. I know there are ones for that at both places, but I would have to find someone who will carry some paper. I can come up with 10k. I still haven't exhausted third party financing like a personal loan, but I know the rates will be high.
I drove through Lost Lake last year. Didn't look bad, but didn't seem as nice as WW or Aha. From what I understand those two are the nicer ones on the lower river. There are a couple on Craigslist from Lost Lake...pricey though.

I bought my first place at LL for 3K! It's gonna be as nice as you make it, dirt roads are about the biggest downside. They do run a water truck all weekend long though to help. The bigger double wides will be way north of 10K, as will most of the single wide mobiles. Now a travel trailer on a spot is probably as far as 10K will take ya. Just throwing out other options, the girls in the store have a list of stuff for sale, mostly parked owned and they do deal.

I'll have to give them a call. Nice they have a list in the office. I talked to the offices at Aha and Waterwheel and they don't have any information on what's for sale. The best they could do was, "drive out and look around". The nice thing about a trailer is I can get 100 percent financing. I can find a newer used park model for under 20k.
Other than the dirt roads. How do the beaches, ramps, stores, bars, restaurant, fuel, etc. compare? What about that section of river. Thanks for your ideas.

Our store is nicely stocked, including boat parts. Not a ton of selection but a lot of the times it can save a trip to Parker. Fuel is in the park in front of the store, both reg and 100ll. The store cooks a little food too, they have a pizza oven that does a decent job and microwaves for the rest. People are always ordering biscuits an gravy in the morning. Definitely not a full restaurant but again, could work in a pinch and save a trip to town. There are 2 ramps, one strait into the river current and a double wide that goes into our lagoon. I've gone 3 wide there if everyone shares and plays nice lol. There are 3 areas to go to w/in about a 10 min boat ride, the upper sandbar, lower sandbar and a man made cove directly in front of the park. Kinda hard to explain that one. I hang at the lower, in the evenings we'll boat up to the bridge, Agnes Willson Rd, and float back, sometimes twice. You can also get a vehicle to the lower sandbar, jeep or golf cart. Just as another option. There is always a party in someone's garage in the evenings it seems. Holiday weekends can get busy, the owner makes event shirts every year too.
Grab a campsite for a weekend and check it out! If you want gras, ask to be on the "golf course".

How are the spots for travel trailers? Just asking cause i would like to take my trailer somewhere close to Water Wheel and i know thats the next park.

Some are in dirt, some have gras and shade trees, some are out in the open on a grass field. It really depends on where you are. In the order above, lagoon, "campground area" and "golf course". I could take screenshots and mark the areas for ya? I have never camped......don't even know if those sites are full hook up or not lol

Storage is just out in the open, behind a chain link fence.
Honest opinion, you probably won't spend much time in the park, launch at noon, party till midnight, sleep and do it all again the next night!
I'm not purposely trying to be vague, its just a little hard to describe. I never pay attention to the details cause they don't apply to me. The map below I'll do my best to explain.
The P sites are for the most part dirt, all the day use around it is grass though. The 600 sites will be grass w/ shade trees. Not all of those are available for weekends, some of those are permanent spots! The ones closest to the road (arrow that reads To Point) are usually the available ones for campers.
Also Google earth will give you a good lay of the land, it sounds lame, but seriously!

Nice take for the help. I want to take my trailer there and check it out. I want to look at a few sites cause i thinking about buying another trailer i leave it either in Blythe, Parker or Needles.

Weekdays are like ghost town. Did Tuesdays and Wednesdays for a summer and had the place to our selves!

Lost lake is a cool place to camp.you camp by the ramp you can call ahead and pay for the date and the spot you want.it's full hook ups for 30 bucks a night most spots you can get your rv and truck and boat in there at least I could with a 24 foot class c. They have bathrooms and showers next to the camp. all the people I have met have been really cool and it has never been loud or crazy. The lagoon is cool to put up the easy up and chill in the water and watch your kids play. The store is cool and well stocked with parts and and fluids the girls are nice and helpful you can call them and they will tell you about any think you want to know. The storage is 40 bucks a month and I think for 10 bucks they will pull your rv out and set it up for you the day your coming that way you get there and the air is on and ready to go.
That part of the river is all ways calm when I go.there is no other camps north in tell you get to big river I think and it's a few mile down river to water wheel I think. To me lost lake is laid back and water wheel seems snobby where at aha you have to be in with the cool kids. I'm sure I'm dead wrong and the people at aha and ww are just as cool I have just never got that feeling there. Hope this helps any.

Lost Lake is a lot quieter than it used to be when we got our spot in there. I have no complaints over the years(9). Everyone gets along. No Snobs I know of. Compared to Big River, Lost Lake's water condition is like glass, even on the weekends.
Other than a few friends that have places at WW & AQ, neither of those places have anything that would pull me to them. 8)

I was looking at Big River also and Rio del Sol. First I heard about the water conditions. Can you elaborate?
Also, how is the water depth around Lost Lake for wake boarding? I realize there are sand bars, but do you have to wait for the water to come up?

What are you wakeboarding behind?
I have gotten up early enough to see the water flowing out of the lagoon. I have also been up early enough to hear some of the hot boats do some testing. I usually launch between 11 and noon and get off the water at sunset. Water flows change throughout the season so its hard to give a specific answer.

I sold my 99 Air Nautique that was a direct drive, but would mind getting a v-drive Nautique 210(21 foot) or something like that, in addition to my jet boat of course. ;D It would be your basic roll bar boat.

I've been running my v-drive flat bottom down there w/ out problems, you'll have to learn where the deep channel is. The jet should let ya learn lol

Water levels vary but there is normally enough to launch and ride around by noon. Wakeboarding is mostly done upriver by the Bridge or downriver below the lower sandbar. Both areas a couple miles away from the Park.

CS 19 says it's a real peach. I don't rmember seeing it at LL but maybe this summer. My first ride in a small boat was in a Hondo Flatbottom with a SBC at Lake Isabella vs. a Cole Flat with a BBC. We got beat by a bunch, but a month later I had a Jet Boat. That was long, long ago :).
Maybe see you over the summer. Space P-1 on the Point next to the deep water launch.

We've been at LL for 24 years now, don't ever remember being able to go to the sandbar through the old river channel, been playing on this part of the River since the 70's, yeah I know, the Hondo is always there just don't get it wet as much as I use to. Thank You and Chris for the compliment. We are in sp# 611 come by for a cold one.
