that gear vendors configuration looks pretty good! i figure if it doesnt work out ill just keep it for another project, and 2k cant buy u much hp, id have to  change pistons and run boost to gain any more as im running high compression and meth as it is

the idea is only to drop rpm for cruising mpg and using the tq curve to pull the boat, then go back 1:1 for hard wide open runs... i would like to start running a dart aluminum block and already running aluminum heads, intake, scoop, valve covers pretty much everything else it aluminum to shave weight even my rails and fuel tank.. i think if i got rid of the back seat and moved the motor forward it would weigh as much as two people and a small cooler.. i just don't get why it wont work

why is it that powerglides work for vdrives and prop boats but not for jets??? i just cant wrap my head around how a second gear for cruising in my tq curve would b a bad thing  :banghead:

ex: peak tq at 4000rpm at 450ish
peak hp at 6000rpm at 600ish

now with a gear that turns ur motor at 4k rpm and impeller at 5k rpm that would be absorbing about 450hp at full throttle according to impeller charts, our big blocks make very flat tq curves usualy only droping 100-200 from peak to 2000rpm, so if i have 450flbs at 4000rpms and say 300lbs at 2500rpm that would be more than enough for my boat at cruising speed.. i usualy cruise at 3200 rpm because that is a nice riding speed but according the impeller chart it is only absorbing 118hp, and if 2500rpm is making 300lbs of tq then why cant i get one gear 1:1 for all out speed and the other gear overdriven just for my cuise speed at little under half throttle

once again im late.. so i understand running a tr on a stock gen v wont help out much but what about some one with say, aluminum heads big lunati cam (3k-6.5k power band) basset headers and good valve train, i have a 800cfm Holley on a dual plane open plenum intake (pro comp) do u guys think the gains would be worth it to go to a tr and dual 600s?? or maybe just a bigger carb? or are the gains going to be so small its not worth it. ex of what im looking at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CMB-03-0183/KitComboContents/     also can u use the same hei dizzy??

My dodge Dakota 5.2 4x4 pulls 5000lbs according to the sticker also have 215000 on the tranny but motor went out at 150k rebuilding was cheap and fast only took 1 week.. I like it at 16mpg towing and 21 driving the speed limit hwy but id be a liar if I said I wasn't looking for a cummins 12 valve. 24 mpg and can pull the moon

its really tough when u already feel over your head about buying a new toy and are already wanting to modify it but relax, from the looks of it you have a nice boat. if it runs good and got u on and off ur trailer with out a paddle or being towed your already ahead of the game. u may want to put thos headers in the classifieds section for a straight out trade for everything, im sure there is some one here with through hull that would like to go over transom, if u asked me 6 months ago i know i would have been willing to give u everything for a set of those. as far as installing them there are many diagrams out there that will show you how the water flows through and u really only need a hole saw a drill and some rtv, i will not let my friends kids ride in my boat any more as it seems they are drawn to chrome and headers like flys to fire. another thing is that if u do go through transom exhaust u will be able to run enough water and keep them cool enough to make an engine cover, but we will get into that later

Can u get e85 on any lakes??? My fuel tank is to small to stay that close to my truck all day.

« on: September 01, 2012, 11:29:55 PM »
Well first off do u have wet headers?? Check and see if they are cracked or leak, water should never be in the oil it can cause big problems, especialy if u ever run in the salt.. drain ur oil and do a pressure test on the block if u get good pressure I would rule out gaskets and focus on ur exhaust system, ex maybe a stuck open basset t valve

What's ur pick a n/a high compression motor, a stocker with nos, a low compression blower motor or a turbo motor, must run pump gas and no fuel injection.

I am very conservative with the 500hp estimate and it sounds like I am getting a b cut impeller. Is anyon eelse running nos and methanol at the same time :)

Jet Pumps / Re: tq vs hp impeller choice

The pump has about 15 hours on it and is tight I am more intrested in finding out if I put an AA impeller I should lower rpm and gain mpg where if I go to a b I would raise rpm and lose mpg, would I see a real mph gains or losses from either?  I do plan on running a 150 shot of nos for fun within a couple of months.
