This is always a good test. I prefer to do a leak down. Get the motor nice and warm first. Then do the leak down. This way you will know if the whole package is good.

Sure Fords are great. There are tons of proven Fords in boats that have performed for decades. I think his major issue is price. It's always a factor. If he has to rerig the boat just to install the Ford how much money does that take away from the actual build costs. Nothing worse than a boat that is broken. Doesn't matter what brand engine.

I just wouldn't buy a used engine for a boat. It's such a shot in the dark.

On the home page you will find a link for all the many reasons why the FORD is superior to the GM from an engineering standpoint. I think if you compare the prices on parts you will often find the Ford is cheaper to fix than the BBC too. Bowtie guys lose sleep over this stuff but it is hard to argue with Paul's facts.

Anybody notice GM announced yet another recall today? Un freaking believable.

Are you serious? Did you just pull the Ford is better than Chevy card?

The best and safest way to repower his boat would to remove his old 454 disassemble and have a reputable shop rebuild it. This way he can set actual power and usage goals.

Call c&j engineering in Santa Fe springs. Take the carb to them and tell them what's happen in and you motor specs. They will dial you in.
