I pulled the exhaust last night and gave it the ol rubber mallet , water hose and compressed air treatment. Decent amount of sand and some little rocks came out but didnt seam like enough to cause a problem so I kept digging around and found that my water inlet line coming off the jet to T fitting and then the logs was pinched under the motor between the pan and a bolt. Got that freed up and it flows much better now. Water test this weekend to see if its fixed.

I have Hardin marine logs an snails and I too them off and some sand came out , so I took the rubber mallet and tapped all over them then blew them out with air then I used a hose , couldn’t believe how much sand came out lol it looked like I was panning for gold lol

Awesome thats what I will do. I took the inlet block off plates, t stat housing and freeze plugs out and cleaned the inside of my motor with a piece of wire , air compressor and water hose and could not believe the amount of sand and pebbles that came out. Would make sense the logs would be just as clogged. Thanks again for all the help.

Alright so I took the boat out yesterday to the green drink and I have a couple more questions. First, I now have to run the gate valve all the way open to keep the motor at 165* and it preformed great. Should the valve need to be all the way open to keep a mild built bbc cool? I also noticed a lot of water getting out the jet right where I installed the new place diverted nozzle. Could that cause any issue with the motor getting water from the jet? Last question , even with the motor running at 165* and verified while running that water was coming out the exhaust , when I stop and shut it off you can hear water boiling and some weird sounds coming from the logs and snails. What could be causing that noise?

It could be the wrong sending unit for the gauge.

I made sure it was a sender and not a switch and also made sure the psi rating matched. Looked exactly the same as the one that came on the boat. Its only a single wire sender so I figured it would be easy to set up.

I will pull it apart and remove the tape. Any other ideas or things I can try while having it apart?

I Know this is a old thread but im having the exact same issues so I figured I could save some questions. New gauge and new sender. ignition on but motor off gauge pegs at 80. Unplug sender wire with ing on and goes to 0. I have a 90* fitting with teflon tape on the sender connecting to the block and read I could interrupt the sender grounding?? Any help?

Keep it simple first. Did you pull the t-stat housing yet? Are you running a t-stat?

Yes I pulled the housing. No water inside at all and no tstat.

  First off I will give a little boat info. 1974 Hornet. Mild built chevy 427 BB with logs and snails hooked up to a berkley 12jg. Just had the boat out at the green drink a couple weeks ago without any issues. So this past weekend I took my boat out to parker for some weekend fun and on my first run the boat started to over heat. Pulled her over to the beach and started troubleshooting. First thing I did was check my gate valve which was open and still set at my sweet spot from my previous trips. After doing some test I found the water was coming into the logs and then to the front of the motor inlets but not coming out the tstat ports and out to the exhaust. My understanding is the water jackets through the motor must have corrosion or sand build up after doing some research on here? Im looking to see if there is any solutions to clearing it out without having to pull the motor disassemble it and have it hot tanked. Has anyone used rydelme marine or any type of flush kit with success?
