Projects / fuel tanks for Kona
« on: June 15, 2020, 01:21:42 PM »
Picked up some fuel tanks recently and don’t think I they’re going to work because the fuel necks don’t line up with the gunnels, anybody have some tanks for sale? The ones I bought hoping to work are 50x8 and I’m thinking I need some rectangular ones. Any info helps thanks.

In my experience with dual tanks, and because the fuel is sucked up a tube instead of gravity draining out the bottom, a simple tee connecting them both will NOT drain each equally. Due to any slight variation, fuel from the tee will drain from the tank of least resistance pulling some from the second tank, but not evenly. With these same tanks in my boat one would drain completely, start sucking air, while the other tank was 3/4 full. Without the ability to at least manually shut the tanks off to force one or the other, a simple tee setup didn’t work for me. While there is a truck style electric tank switch in the automotive world that is VERY tempting to use to electrically switch tanks, it has some issues too. One, the fuel feeds of that unit are really not big enough for good fuel delivery, meaning you could starve the engine at wide open throttle, and more importantly it is not ‘marine’ rated.   On a boat, especially carburetored boats, the fuel system is super important and should be primarily focused on safety for you and your passengers when you design it, just like any current boat builder selling you a new boat would. This really leaves making an investment in the Imco Fuel switching valve. Electrically operated via a switch installed up near the driver, and with fuel flow capacity greater then what almost any Jetboat needs, plus marine rated, that one you overcome the price barrier, you will not regret your decision.  This fuel switch also works best when a fuel sender is installed on each tank, because it has the ability to read the tank selected letting you know on the river what’s what with fuel levels before you get caught. I had it done by the experts at Place Diverter, and I enjoy it each time I go out. Google Place Diverter, talk to Tim and schedule it up. You won’t regret the safety and results.

Arcade / Bullet fuel tanks install

Just picked up a couple bullet fuel tanks and got them mounted up in the boat. Now I’m interested in what I need for the fuel tanks and how everyone else set up their new tanks. Do I need a sending unit in each tank and run them together off the gauge? Any input will be helpful, I’m new to jet boating and getting these fuel tanks set up correctly is the last thing I gotta do before puttin my Kona on the water.

Cool thanks I’ll try to find that article. And no I can’t move the tanks forward at all without modifying the bench seat or getting different tanks that fit better.

Just picked up these aluminum tanks for cheap. The dimensions are 50 X 8 and will only fit in the very rear of the boat without changing up my rear bench which I don’t want to do. How do I go about installing them? I know a lot of people are glassing them so I may go that route but can I get away with strapping them? Any input would be helpful, I just got this boat and the fiberglass fuel tank In the bow is disintegrating and want to know if I should cut that old tank out as well or leave it in and fil it with something for weight distribution? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Still new to this whole jet boating life and getting these damn tanks in is the only thing holding me back from putting it on the water lol
