So I bought my first boat in September. A 71 Kona with a 455 and a berkeley 12jc. Took it out a few times and had a blast. I was reading about fiberglass gas tanks and ethanol on this site and decided to take the carb off while putting the boat up for the winter (I am up in Washington state). The black stuff is in the intake manifold. So I found some aluminum tanks locally that I'm going to pick up this weekend. I'll try to post the progress. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
