I cant find the time to get this project completed and my ADD has me looking at a different boat.  All of the big checks have been written.  Whats left is assembly, wiring, and seats.  I have all parts, plumbing, fuel tanks, cables, etc., to complete.  Clean titles, current tags on trailer and boat.  Boat ran 80 mph before project improvements.  Located in Lake Havasu.

I have tons of additional pics of the build step by step.

Projects / Imco side tank filler relocation
« on: February 09, 2015, 12:03:40 AM »
I decided to fill the holes on my Daytona19 where the fuel fill flip ups came from the factory.  I think the boat looks cleaner without them.  Has anyone else done this and converted imco side tanks to fillers located inside the boat?  If so pics would be great.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / BBC starters
« on: February 07, 2015, 12:16:44 AM »
So what's the best bet for a starter for my BBC in my Daytona 19.  It's 11:1 compression, .30 over, dual quads, nothing too crazy.

Once the motor goes back in I can't get to the starter to change it out so I want to make sure whatever I use is going to last.

OEM starter or something marine specific, MSD, others?

Thanks, Walt

Projects / 1978 Daytona 19 project
« on: July 27, 2014, 12:25:52 AM »
Started down a long road today, gutted the boat to begin a complete redo of the boat and trailer.  Next step is dropping the hull off with Scott Kornowski for bottom rework, redo of the balsa floors, and restoration of the original gelcoat from 78.  Under the white, the blue and the brown we found it, cool looking red orange and brown color scheme.

BBC is getting some updating with a new cam, aluminum heads and a 200 shot of nitrous, and moving it forward.

She runs 80 now, goal is to get into the 100's.

The No Wake Zone / BBC starter fail / question
« on: July 13, 2014, 11:44:31 PM »
So my starter took a dump on my eliminator Daytona 19 / BBC.  From the looks of it I can't remove the starter
without pulling the motor since Chevy has the starter bolts coming up from the bottom.  I can get to one of the bolts but the second one is up under the tunnel and I can get a wrench to it.  Am I overlooking an easier way?

What starter brand is a good replacement, 11/1 compression?

The No Wake Zone / Will this BBC oil pan work for a jet boat?
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:37:32 AM »
My Daytona 19 has a stock oil pan, need to upgrade to higher volume pan.  Been looking around at Dooley's etc., new ones are north of $700.

Saw these 13 qt pans on JEGS for a reasonable price, any reason why it wouldn't work for a jetboat?

The No Wake Zone / Newb question.....
« on: June 10, 2014, 04:36:41 PM »
When I back my Daytona 19 in to the water it seems as if there is an air pocket in the pump.  When I fire it up the pump and water cooling doesn't work for about a minute and then it makes like a burp sound and starts pumping.  Is this a normal jet boat thing or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, 35 years of owning boats, first time with a jet, lots of questions.

The No Wake Zone / Wednesday night speed alley gathering?
« on: June 10, 2014, 08:53:27 AM »
I heard folks have been getting together on Wednesday evenings in the old speed alley on Havasu for a few weeks now.  Regular thing?  I'm not up there often during the week but I will be in a few weeks and wanted to check it out if it's going on regularly.

The No Wake Zone / Got my Daytona 19 running this weekend
« on: June 08, 2014, 05:42:11 PM »
After four trips to the ramp she's running great.  The culprit was the carbs needed rebuilding and then we discovered electrical gremlins in the rats nest of wiring under the dash.  The key switch was bad.  The boat would run fine in the garage and at the ramp but on the lake every wave would jar the switch and it was cutting power or dropping voltage to 8 to the motor.  Tossed the key and went with a switch and push button starter.

So here is the question.  It's a 454, .30 over, dual 600's, 11 to 1 pistons, b impeller, droop snoot, jet O Vator.  At wide open throttle I'm at 6000 rpm and we hit 74 mph.  It just feels like it could go faster, like if it were a car it would need a gearing change.  It hits really hard out of the hole, but runs out of prop so to speak at the top end.

Different impeller?

I bought this boat from a guy in Havasu, he bought it in 99 from a guy that went by the name "Bear".  When he bought it in 99 it was already done in white with the "forkin beautiful" on the sponsons.

Anyone know any past owners of this boat?

Also, it's fully capped which I know eliminator didn't do in 1978, so somewhere along the way somebody made some major changes.  I want to remove some of the white paint to see what the original gel colors were.

Thanks, Walt

Miscellaneous / Spam / Gas dryer / cheap - 2 / 30 packs
« on: June 02, 2014, 09:40:34 AM »
It's not beautiful but it cooks clothing hotter than any dryer I have ever used.  I I rebuilt the drum guides and rollers about a year ago and put a new belt on it so it's very quiet.

Years ago somebody left a pen in their pocket so there is now a nice disco looking ink stains on the drum, but the ink is long gone.

It's located in Anaheim Hills, will sell for $50 or two 30 packs of Coors Light.

Got up early to hit the lake before the crowds.  Place was empty, perfect.

Boat ran great if I kept it mid throttle and just cruised around.  When I opened it up it would run like a raped ape for 5-10 seconds and then die.

It wouldn't restart right away, battery would barely crank it over.  Waited about 5 Minutes and then it would fire up and run again just fine if I just drove around, as soon as I hammered it, it would die again after about 5 seconds of full throttle.

I put a brand new battery in it last night.  I checked voltage when I got home and it was 12.5.

Any suggestions?

I screwed up and ordered metal ones instead of stainless like I wanted.  They won't take them back because they are special order.  Still in the box, located in Anaheim Hills or can deliver to Havasu.

Miscellaneous / Spam / Anyone need a washer or dryer?
« on: May 16, 2014, 08:37:53 AM »
Dryer is old school, gas, GE, not pretty but it cooks clothes like a mofo.  Washer is a pretty new maytag, couple years old at most, all the high tech bells and whistles, digital read out, low water use etc., they are in my truck already and can easily deliver to havasu this weekend.

I don't feel like unloading them, or dealing with Craig'slist meth heads, so make me an offer.  Cheap is fine.

The No Wake Zone / What's this fitting for on my Bassets?
« on: May 12, 2014, 11:19:22 PM »
Isn't this port for running water into the pipes?  My pipes have the water lines plumbed into the bend near the block.
So what's this port for?  It blocked off.  Also anyone have a suggestion for something good looking to put in there before I have them jet coated?  There is a rusty Home Depot set up in the holes now.
