Sand / Dellorto Carb Tuning
« on: September 07, 2015, 04:22:58 PM »
Picked up a VW mid engine sand rail a while ago (my first). Have not had it out yet, but looking forward to this season. Been tinkering with a few things but now find myself needing some help with tuning the carbs.
Anybody near the La Verne area that could lend some insight or a hand with this? I could throw a few buck in your direction.
Thanks in advance.

Projects / Battery Tray &Flame Arrestor Needed
« on: August 08, 2015, 10:13:49 AM »
OK guys we are making the maiden voyage to Havasu with Bebo's 83 Crusader project. But we are running out of time. We really need to find a battery tray and a flame arrestor. He is running a scoop so the arrestor can't be too tall. We have a battery box we may run, but we are looking for a tray that anchors to the stringer or something similar. Let me know what you have. We are in the LA Verne area.
Thanks.

Projects / Help Tuning New Engine
« on: July 30, 2015, 12:07:17 PM »
Just got my son's boat started after several issues and delays due to school. Since we are shade tree mechanics at best we are looking for some help/advice to get this thing dialed in with timing, carb etc. We are located in LA Verne and will be home in the evenings and this weekend. Can kick down a few bucks and boat sodas for the help.

This is my sons project and we are headed to havasu in two weeks. I would love to see him in his own boat and out with the family.

Thank you

Projects / How is your battery installed?
« on: July 26, 2015, 04:58:27 PM »
Trying to finish up my son Bebo's  83 Crusader project. The battery was installed really badly. Not even bolted or strapped down. His battery goes on the right side all the way towards the transom. I would like to have a permanent type anchorage to the stringer or similar.
Let's see some pics please.
Thanks.

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / BBC - Mallory Dizzy and Oil Pump
« on: March 28, 2014, 05:17:16 PM »
Like the title says I have a Mallory Comp 9000 dizzy and a stock oil pump with pickup. The dizzy came on the engine we used for Bebo's float, but we ended up going HEI for simplicity. The oil pump is brand new, never used from Summit. It was mocked up but never run.

I also have 4 RCA cables that are about 16 feet long each. These would work well if someone is installing a stereo that is not too close to an amp. Like putting the stereo in a hidden or tucked away location.

Make offer on any or all. I need these gone. They are on CL but I would rather see them go to a SCJB'er.

Thanks,
Frank

The No Wake Zone / Paso Robles - RV Campground
« on: September 26, 2011, 11:22:00 AM »
My company has a job coming up in Paso Robles in late October. They want me to go but are considering hiring someone local. This might put me out of a job. I am trying to find ways to cut there costs to send me up there. Anyone know of a decent campground that takes long term residents (+/- 3 months)? I think it might cheaper and maybe even be nicer for me to stay in the trailer than a motel. Plus I would not have to keep making reservations/ changing rooms etc. Anything within about 20 miles would be cool I think. The closer the better to save on the fuel costs.

Thanks in advance.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Exhaust Hose
« on: September 10, 2011, 04:32:14 PM »
One more minor crisis. Seems that the exhaust hose we bought is 3" diameter, but the original hose is actually 2 7/8". Anybody know who or where I might find this in stock. I was thinking a big rig repair shop might carry something like this. Let me know.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Wiring Help Needed
« on: September 09, 2011, 10:18:57 PM »
Heres the rundown - Bebo has promised his boat to the Boy Scouts for an outing next weekend. I think we are REALLY close to firing it but need help figuring out the wiring. I have looked through the site, but don't see (or maybe dont understand) one that fits our scenario.

The motor is a BBC. We are not running an alternator for now because we cannot get one to fit with the rail kit/motor plates and the logs which angle downward. We have a Mallory Pro Comp 9000 dizzy which has a three wire connector on it. W have a 6AL box but are not running it for now due to time constraints and figuring out a mounting method .

The wiring harness seems complete from the dash to the terminal block. Any help is greatly appreciated. We are going to bust our butts tomorrow to make this happen for him.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Log & Snail Question
« on: August 19, 2011, 07:02:18 PM »
On the bottom of the snails there are 2 ports. The one closest to the front is where they were originally plumbed. Is there any reason we cannot use the rear port?  We are having a clearance issues with one side, and since the snails rise slightly as they go back I believe that it would clear if we plumbed them there?

Thanks

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / PTO or No PTO
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:37:33 PM »
So I was told recently that even if the pattern of the driveline matches that of my crank, I still need to run a PTO. Is this right? I thought they were used as an adapter when the patterns did not match.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Mounting Plate Bolt Holes
« on: June 22, 2011, 09:03:40 PM »
When I put the bolts throught the front mounting plate into the block they seem a little loose. The threads look a little flat inside the hole. The bolts are 3/8" which I think is right. I ran a chaser through, but it didn't do anything cuz there is no material to reshape. Have not tried the rear plate because it is still on the engine stand. What can I do?

The No Wake Zone / Cherry Picker
« on: June 19, 2011, 01:59:16 PM »
Anybody in the So Cal area got a cherry picker I could borrow for a little while? We are gonna try to get Bebo's motor in and set the angle, but its gonna be an after work - whenever we can fit it in kinda deal. Might need it for a week or two. I would glady kick down a few bucks or beers or both. Just don't want to have to rent one repeatedly or long term. Thanks in advance.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Stuck Fuel Pump Rod
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:53:54 PM »
So we decided to go with an electric fuel pump on Bebos Crusader, but the fuel pump rod won't come out. We put a little grease on it to hold it in when we installed it. Any suggestions? BBC BTW.

The No Wake Zone / I GOT A JOB!!!!!
« on: February 07, 2011, 04:04:10 PM »
After two years of minimal work at ridiculous pay I finally got hooked up with a company I have been trying to get on with for a while. I just sent back their offer letter and background release paperwork. I should be working by the end of the week. Pay is obviously not what I was making a couple of years ago, but It will definitely let us breathe easier and take the pressure of my wife. Thank God that I have a supportive family including my mom, brother and sister who have been incredibly helpful. We have been living on pennies and trying to keep the kids lives as normal as possible. It sucks so bad to have to tell your kids that they cannot have even the most minor pleasure because it costs $5. Especially the girls who are 7 and 8. Thanks to all you guys for the parts help in keeping Bebo's project going.

« on: February 06, 2011, 06:08:48 PM »

Water inlets and outlet
Crank pulley for alternator
Starter
Blaster 2 Coil
Throttle cable plate
Stringer rail to engine plate blocks

Thanks
Frank
