In an e-mail awhile back, Brad told me that there wasn't a formal assignment process for NJ numbers; he said you just basically use any CJXXX that's not already in use. What size do they need to be? Specific location? Required color?

Sorry for all the questions. I printed off the "2008 APBA Rules for Inboard Racing"
and the "2008 APBA General Safety Rules". I've read through it all a couple of times
but CJ/NJ doesn't seem to be specifically mentioned. I am not yet a member but I know
I need to join to participate.

Thanks Brad.
As I understand it, rookies must wear an "X" on the back of their helmets the first year. To become a qualified driver, 4 fellow racers and a referee must vouch for you.
Is that close?
Also, until qualified you can only advance as far in the field as the ref determines, say no higher that 5 in an 8 boat field. Close?

Hi guys,
What do you guys do for maintenance between heats? How about overnight?
Oil and filter change? New plugs? Just keep an eye on things but no basic changes
over the weekend unless something specific comes up?

Hi Guys,
I know rookie drivers start on the most outside lane. Do all drivers stay in the same lane all race, or if you get a length or two ahead can you move to a different lane?
Any driving tips or strategies (that you're willing to share?)

it. So, do you just do your best to guess a 4 feet and tech lets you know if they think
you're too far off?

I tried to find out as much as I could on the internet, and I printed out all the APBA stuff I could find. But some of it was pretty vauge. So, sorry for all the questions! I'm just trying to figure this out ahead of time as much as possible so I don't show up and look like a big buffoon!
My Boat is a 1985 Cougar 1800SS. It's a splash of the Eliminator 18SS if you're familiar with that boat. I'm running a mild 468 with a Berkeley pump. So, if you guys are all bumping 80, try not to swamp me when you lap me!
Tim's boat is a completely restored '77 Hallet 19 footer running a BBF and Berkeley pump.

Am I correct that helmets have to be florescent yellow, florescent orange, or international orange for a minimum of the top 50%?
Are you guys running the Bells from Lifeline? Open or closed? If open, do I need goggles or just glasses?

I thought Comp Jet was a defunct class. But, then I saw that Brad posted over
on PB that both CJ and NJ will be running at Burley. How do I decide which class
to run? Would somebody please explain the differences?
