Here is the bottom work, flat to round conversion

I cant find the time to get this project completed and my ADD has me looking at a different boat.  All of the big checks have been written.  Whats left is assembly, wiring, and seats.  I have all parts, plumbing, fuel tanks, cables, etc., to complete.  Clean titles, current tags on trailer and boat.  Boat ran 80 mph before project improvements.  Located in Lake Havasu.

BOAT

- 1978 medium layup
- all new gel coat, hull cap and all stress cracks repaired, keels rebuilt, etc., by Islander Marine
- all holes plugged
- new round keel conversion, 4130 loader grate, adjustable shoe and shims by B1 Racing
- new motor plates and motor relocated 6" forward for better performance

PUMP

- complete rebuild by B1 racing
- new dominator split bowl, bronze impeller, bearings, seals, wear rings, etc.
- all parts powder coated, re-assembled and set in the boat by B1 racing

ENGINE

- .30 over 454 with 11/1 pistons and corvette heads
- rebuilt dual 600's
- engine completely broken down and all parts painted, polished or powdercoated
- new jet coated twisty headers

TRAILER

- sandblasted and powdercoated
- new tires, chrome fenders, turbine wheels, wiring and LED lights
- chromed swing away tongue
- new bunks

Well got her wet for the first time yesterday. First hurdle was a dead battery. The last owner always disconnected the battery after each use. I turned it over at the house to make sure the battery was good and it fired right up. Just left it hooked up for like 30 min while I picked up my buddy, beer and headed to the lake and by the time I got there it was stone cold dead. Still cant figure out what is drawing on it. Already ordered a painless disco switch.

Then she fired right up and ran started idling around and ran pretty good. About two min later realized I had taken on some water. Got back to the ramp and realized the last owner had pulled the block water drain plugs to winterize it since the boat was up in Oregon. Not something I'm used to checking here in sunny so cal. Ran to the hardware store and grabbed two plugs and after that was smooth sailing.

Well after getting the kinks worked out I got her cruising. I love the way this thing rides I've never riden in a Daytona before. Didn't really get on it at all probably topped out around 50-55. Previous owner said he got it on radar at 79 with this setup.  Don't need another speeding ticket at puddingstone. Plan on taking her to Elsinore next week with a different engine to really open her up.

Yeah the set back seats and steering is really all ive noticed that was changed.

Nice are you planning on changing the power in that thing when you put it back together?

And it is a flat keel but hoping to change that in the next few weeks. Is yours flat? you planning on changing that?

Just changed it to round during this rebuild.  Chris at B1 racing in Santa Ana did the work.  He did the keel, and changed the loader, intake etc to a much better set up then the hack job that was on it.  Those changes are according to him good for 5-7 mph.

I have a 77 as well, here is what it looked like a few months ago as well as now.........in the middle of a complete makeover at the moment

I decided to fill the holes on my Daytona19 where the fuel fill flip ups came from the factory.  I think the boat looks cleaner without them.  Has anyone else done this and converted imco side tanks to fillers located inside the boat?  If so pics would be great.

Most of the paint is gone now, lots of sanding and blocking going on.  Uncovered some poorly repaired damage on the passenger side sponson so that's getting fixed.

Most of the work on it to remove the paint was by razor blade.  Trying to keep the weight down as well by  getting rid of everything.

Islander marine is removing all of the old paint and redoing the gel inside and out.  Under the white paint and under the blue paint was the original gel, brown hull with orange and red graphics.  Too bad they ground the shit out of the  gel when they painted it, can't bring it back, new gel will be red white and black.

I left that on mine but just set it in place with a turnbuckle

I would do ceramic coat not powder, not sure jay can ceramic. So you may have to hit up Jakes guy.

Jay is doing ceramic now, he did mine a few months back, came out great
