?how did you get the measurement did you have light weight springs on head and did you check both valves ex and int did you turn motor over by hand  and check the run out on steam does it make roller run in center of valve did you mark valve stem with lip stick or felt tip pin to see wear roller runs at how much off center are you if any How did you check it  Explain were was roller at full lift at center or? It takes me at least half hour to set up and check did you have ind mounted to head to check for full lift. did you look at head or put streight edge down top of valve stems to see if all are set  same height ?

Do it rite the first time and you wont have to do it, after the big noise . Cheaper & Better, short or long push rods cause chipped valve stems and broken rollers. Valves hit piston then what.
I dont want to scare any one just try to help them

106
You will more than likely need different length than stock .Cam makes difference valve job long valves, Roller rockers , block decked, heads cut, all help to change push rod length.
you need to have your push rods index for the proper length or have a motor that wont put out its best. might even put a valve in to a piston. was cam deg to? how did you check piston to valve clearance ?

Will look tomorrow for a can if not will have  my son bring some up from Riverside dont worry about heat you have the biggest radiator in the world and you need heat to make horse power , 180=200 temp is fine and most jet don't get 150 temp cold and they make condensation like fast no heat to dry motor out. There like a big water bucket ready to rust  :banghead:

The original paint that has been used for block and head was a paint called gliptall spelled wrong been long time you could buy this from Granger I now use insulating EPOXY coating thermal rated class F flexible, resilient finish this EPOXY is fast drying

has excellent moisture, oil alkali, and chemical resistance Leaves a flexible finish this is what is used on Electoral motor windings , The reason I use it is to seal any un seen particle left from  clean or pyre cleaning down glass bead mag check etc the first coat seals the rust and any thing not cleaned between block or head surface, The second coat is used after machine work has been (cleaned ), to seal any left particles then a third coat is used before,

final assemble your heads have this done to them all my heads are cleaned and painted three times , This Epoxy is used on field coils, exposed metal, windings, taped coils frayed insulation, pitted motor winding, bus bars, collector rings, transformers armatures, and commutator ends, recommended for extreme moisture and oils, I use this on all my heads and block  coast  over $ 6.00 per can  No Rust, helps oil drain down to helps to stop

slug in heads to build up . and rust from ex reversion

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: The Great Debate! Carb vs. EFI

If you want to see how Big oil controls things search the Fish Carburetor and read how the I.R.S stoped the U.N.S.P service from shipping Fish  Carb. I Had friend in Riverside ho  had one I hope to get it some time he passed away not to long a go. Here is head that I am working now for my grand sons race motor Pro 4 Its a ranger head ford 8 spark plug type EFI head . It has been changed to a carb type see adapter on manifold that we made. Inj have been bulged it will fire 8 plug at one time The head has been angle milled to 45cc and a solid  roller cam set up in place ported & polished big valves . In picture you can see the roller rockers, cam will have towers
machined for roller cam berg . I am building one of these heads for my 79 Mustang Ind pace car 4 Cly Turbo Charged with full boast and Electronic Vara- Jection water Inj with alc this way can run more compression and more boast. It will be a 5 speed car for gas
millage if it works out I will build one  for one of my flat bottom boats I have. I will soon have water inj on 454 boat no shortage in lake water and can force feed large spray from lake to Carb. Been playing with water inj for lots of years Spray bottle to clean polished chambers water
and alc spray over Carb fast idle ruining. cleans carbon of Pistons and chambers best on new motor and new heads to keep them clean

Camp down river on Indian land there is launch ramp it cost $80.00 per year for permit camp all the time you want use your ATVs what ever. Over 60 fish permit Extra $5.00 per year. nice beach no patrol boats. run what you bring lots of fast Boats go there blowen flat bottoms & jets. Camp on the water 3 miles to Avie you need 4x4 to launch but with large  group who cares, Avie rs can float down to camp beach, not to many jet skies down there. lots of beach to set up camp on good time there. camp out with real world bugs, snakes, Blood suckers, SAV and I can go home at night at least I can he may have to sleep in Boat. You can camp Needles to and come up river :banghead:

Here is 454 Chev motor that is race built they didn't even use one Chev part all after market,
why? Only made 662hp all after market parts.  What does it take to build one with a stock block and crank to make 600 hp this is
from the pump gas shootout popular hot rodding winner took home $ 27,000 and it to was
a small block and no parts built by Chev 673 hp all after market. Would like to see a Dyno run on Chev parts, block, crank
,  Ford 403cub in  400 Ford block, 400Ford crank =672hp and not race shop built man, wife, two kids.      I think some Dyno test, flow bench test and sales adds are like a women they will tell you any thing to get the money, and laffffffff all the way to the bank   No they had to turn 400 sbc 5000 to get 552hp out of it race built motor. not
chev motor a after market clone.

I use both types on my motor the pressure at motor. Electric at dash, can see both that way I know they are both rite. The sender has to be the rite one for the gauge or it wont work rite. and the wire
size should be rite  from sender to gauge per instrustions , I run solid wire sender to gauge same with temp gauge and tach,  no loas that way :banghead:

We changed all 16 springs oops I watched Brian change the springs , His heads had big
plugs and I couldn't find leak down adapter I made 1 from one his plugs. A couple of spring
would not even close valve, Ran motor on trailer and I could here rocker noise, We used my
compressor air to replace springs on motor good thing it gave US good read on heads they
all sealed OK to remove the springs. Old springs where less than 90 lb and he could turn them on head, new springs that I had ran 110lb  plus and were taller by buy at least 1/8, now
all he has to do is retest, Love my stud mount spring puller drops over center to hold spring down, He did all 16 springs in an hour.

1 .Do you have adjustable rockers
2. Did you turn motor over and check each valve at closed.& open
3. what cam do you have in it.
4. did you check to see if a spring was broke. you some time need a car mirror to
 see back side springs
5  when you turn motor over do all valves close fast and not loosen up like if a guide was tight.
6 are springs matched to cam.
7. are push rods rite length.
8. where valves preset with load on.
9 how were valves set.
10 can you turn valve springs on head with your hand.
11. can you push down on rocker and open valve.
12 Are spring height and seat pressure set to cam spec.
new used or what. I would go back to river and run motor in water with
one rocker cover of at a time on trailer see how it runs when warm and will give you a better chance
to see what is going on. good luck
