 Yea it was designed for street rods/boats.  But it was also designed with TWO carbs on top of it. When I put one on my 460, it lost RPM compaired to the stock cast iron Ford intake.  Once I switched to the duel 4 barrel top, it finally gained RPM over the stock intake.

 Sure you can run one if your trying to duplicate a look for a resto, no doubt about that.  But (IMO) just about anything else you try on there will work better.

I'm pretty sure you just have an exhaust leak, but for your amusement heres what I went through with my last boat. It had that same tick (BBC, pass side of motor) I checked the exhaust, no leak, no cracks.  So I checked all the valves, it needed it anyway (because I didnt set them) but no loose valves. Fired it back up and it had the same tick.  :mad: Finally tracked it down to the intake, yea, the intake.  It was an EGR intake with a plate over the EGR ports. Whoever made the block off plate used a piece of material that had a small hole in it, so they threaded a screw into the plate, the screw fell out and caused the leak.  :screwy:

 Just goes to show you, you never know what someone before you might have done, so check everything.  ::)

 Everyday for over a year and you couldn't tell a long deck from a ski deck ?  Long deck has a loooooong deck and narrow passenger compartment, race deck had a shorter deck and a narrow passenger compartment, ski deck had a short deck and a wider passenger compartment.

 Mouzer's boat was long deck, as advertised.

Jet Pumps / Strange impeller

 So I picked up an old parts boat for a pump and a few parts.  Turned out to have a JA pump in it, with the strangest impeller I have ever seen. I do seem to have a tallent for finding off the wall stuff.  Just thought I would share this incase someone else finds one like this.  It actually has curved veins/blades.  I did a lot of digging to find some info on this thing, and here is direct quote of what I was told " Wow haven't seen one of those impellers in awhile they were an attempt to make a better impeller and failed pretty bad. I thought most of those were recalled and replaced yerar ago. We will not be using that impeller".   

 So, if you find one of these odd things, dont plan on useing it.  ;)

But yes, the situation and useage makes a HUGE difference.

As an example, my kids REALLY miss the 21' Biesemeyer. They had fun with Moo, and fun in Pickle, but a BLAST in the slow, QUIET, and just leisure attitude of the Beiser. So much so, they really don't want to go on boating trips anymore (Since all I have is the Charger running). They're at the point of boyfriends/girlfriends, college, etc. which has made me rethink my Twin Jet, as well as the Saguaro (in progress). For instance, took this girl my son likes, and her Mom out a couple months ago. I didn't think then, and was proved right, there would be a second date, but RJ wanted me to do this. And the Charger you could time with a Sundial, most of you know.......Dunno what this girls Mom woulda thought about Pickle......... Moo mighta killed the broad outright.........

So, My Top 5 hulls, from a PRACTICAL standpoint would be

-1 Schiada 21'
-2 Biesemeyer 21'
-3 Sleekcraft Rebel 18'
-4 Sleekcraft SST 20'
-5 Southwind 20' Miniday

 After all, its an unanswerable question.  Top 5 will depend on what you want the boat to do, where you use it, and how many people you need to cram in it, not to mention looks.  As an example, one of my top 5 would be a 19' Cheyenne tunnel.  But if I had a family of 5, two dogs, three coolers, a bunch of floaty pull toys to drag around, and I wanted to be on the local popular lake on the 4th of July.  It sure wouldn't be on my list.  ;)

 WOW, with a speed drop from 86 down to 72 it was definitely not happy.  You made a good choice to go back to the old set up till you can figure out what the problem might have been.   I'm sure you'll figure it out.  Soon you'll be teaching us all how to deal with these these things.  ;)

 It was fun, just not what I wanted (in the long run).  So, I got rid of it while it was still a happy boat.  New owner actually called me a few weeks after buying it and told me what a great time he was having with it.   I dont think I'll ever be happy/satisfied with any boat, but I'll keep trying.   >:D

 Well I'm not going to get into an argument about the best intake for a 460.  ::)

 But here's a pic of a thermostat housing (no actual thermostat in there, just so you know).


 I have also done the flat plate like Ray showed, but I used the plate as a water outlet and used the port on the front of the manifold for the temp sender. That way the outlet was the highest point (no air pocket in the manifold).  I also used a port on the other side of the water crossover for a second outlet.
