Hey I'd like to see a picture of that............on second thought maybe not ;D

Actually, Nick's Mommy took a picture of it.  ;)

But back on track guys, I'm not endorsing this as a way to ride bitch..........but.........sometimes extreme measures must be taken....... :sly:

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Pesky intermittent issue
« on: May 11, 2011, 12:57:31 PM »
I myself had this exact issue, What i would do is pick up one of them starter buttons you can run at the transom at the boat, this way you can just jump the key switch and see if the starter works, if is works fine you will find most likely the same problem i had, the ignition switch!

X2! Had it happen once as well almost exactly. But since you were horsing around in the bilge, could it be a bad positive or negative cable? it's terminal crimp or end? it's connection?

The only "free speed" I have ever experienced took place in someone elses boat. The $1000 will buy a lot of beers to exchange for rides in fast boats.

I LIKE THIS! But I didn't even hafta do that. All Nick made me do was tie my t-shirt up "byatch style" for a free ride in his Scorpion.......... :sly:

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Clearance issues...
« on: May 11, 2011, 10:04:47 AM »
Get some rest Bud!  ;)  I had to re read all this 3 times to wrap my head around it.

Pat is correct, I would be double checking to ensure the main bores are square fore and aft of the cam bores, and not tapered, etc. Other than that, assuming all is well there, the crank is .027 under, the bearings are expecting a .030 under crank and you still have clearance. I fail to see where the bearings could possibly be too thin to scotchbrite the backsides and taylor fit each one to the clearance you're after...... ???

He does have the diverter (and is already talking about grinding on it for more roost).    Nordie, I told him exactly that.  Stay away from inducers and plates until you know that you need them.  He is fairly convinced this is "free" speed, even though I told him it may make handling worse and actually slow the boat down.
Dang kids, they never listen.   I told him to just enjoy the summer and dive into it when the weather turns but he says he wants to do it now.  Someone else told him that the bottom is identical to Eliminators of the time.  Anyone know if this is right.  I don't think it is.  Sorry but I don't know what size/model he has yet.

Methinks you need to have him call Tommy or Jim who can explain that Ride Plates, Shoes, and Inducers require almost total disassembly of the boat (and pump intake) for the machine work necessary to install them in the first place. Free speed? BWA HA HA HA.......... :screwy:

LOL!

Nah! Ordered a new pickup from Dooley yesterday, $65 after sending pics of what was done to theirs, and a new M84D Pump, $30  ;)

All THAT work to save $30 and destroy the pickup tube in the process????? Really????

PLace Diverter first and foremost. possibly a droop

I would go with that........except I would first spend some time in the boat on a few outings to first see where its at and if any mods/upgrades are even necessary...... ;)

Then over the winter do what I thought necessary.

I had BIG plans for my Pickle boat, but after spending a LOT of seat time in it last year, just didn't seem necessary or prudent. Yeah I put a Diverter on it, figure $650 and change, a new dizzy and ignition when the HEI just would NOT cooperate, shopped right so figure 2 hundo, rebuilt an 850 that I think I had a buck or so in, replaced a bilge pump (Donated one, didn't fail, but still needed it), plugs, wires, newer OT pipes when mine broke (Twice). Also purchased yet to be installed new carpet, replaced the filler neck hoses, oil changes.........and I'm well over $2500 into it above what I paid for a good, solid turn key boat.

My advice? Keep the grand around for maintenance. That grand and more will be spent just keeping it in the water this summer..........

Hey it worked....just looks like ass.

Amazingly enough, yes it apparently did! I'm not sure how the pump wasn't cavitating like a mother, or maybe it was, who knows,  :screwy:

Not gonna use it though. Gonna use a Motorsports rear pan/pickup and new pump on this dealio though. THAT part up there ^^^^ is being retired to the WTF shelf.......

I was talking with Nordie yesterday and we were discussing engines and what I'm doing with the "locust" plague of 460's I have laying around. I pulled three around, apart and on stands this past weekend trying to figure a pretty inexpensive way to put one good one together quickly for my "Yellow Submarine" that my Aunt wants to buy. First one? not so good, rod bearings completely shot (Supposedly a turnkey engine, go figure, but I only paid I think $250 for it.......blocks good, crank can work, heads great,.....but not my point).

Put the second one on the stand, pulled the cast iron intake, WOW! cam looks NEW, no signs of water leakage anywhere, pushrods clean, double valve springs, new valve seals........flip it over and pull off the high dollar Dooley oil pan..........looks good, save for one thing I'll post pics of in a minute. Pulled ALL the rod and main caps (Which I figured on only spot checking), and they are great! Rotating the thing over, piston skirts have no slap marks, minor abrasions, the bores still have the crosshatch on them........perfect for what I am trying to do here!

But there's this pump/pickup dealio.........can someone explain to me why the fock anyone would do this on a fresh build...........

The No Wake Zone / Re: boat insurance
« on: May 09, 2011, 08:32:51 PM »
full coverage even uninsured motorist, as well as any body that is driving any of the two boats its covered.i read it and thats what put a fire under my ass thanks
ralph

im just not going to lose my house over some accident

Right there with ya Ralph!

I think I mentioned before that mine are covered, after negotiations of my taking my homeowners, car and some life insurance with it, to someone that WOULD insure my boats after my Biesemeyer incident. State Farm agreed, and I have a signed policy from the regional director with pics and all of my boats verifying that in case they try and "Welch" on the deal.

Actually about the same as you're paying, but I got them to cover 4 boats, even though the others aren't in the water just yet...... ;)

I just brought home an older Magellan Map410 unit I had bought dad years ago for mapping the locations of property markers. In playing with it, PERFECT for marine applications in it's Marine mode with USA Marine Maps downloaded.

Certainly not state of the art, but pretty damn cool little device! Gonna mount it in my tuna boat...... ;)

My BBC ran water from the pump past a gate valve to an Olson oil cooler from there it went to the block out  the front of the heads then into my drake exhaust manafolds exited the top of the manafolds and was plumbed to the exhaust tips. (Ski Jet II class required logs at the time).  My only complaint was I hadn't run lines up under the seat to allow the gate valve to be within reach and adjustible from the driver's seat.  That one change I would recommend to anyone not using a closed system.

I get the concerns, especially the driver mount valve, mostly due to reversion issues in headers (I have first hand catastrophe's with this). But really? if water temps are in the optimal 180-200 range, considering most ALL jet boats have extended quantity oil pans of some sort, where would Oil temps rise to a near dangerous level on an even 1-2 hour 5000 RPM full throttle blast up river compared to a cross country F350 with the same engine, towing, running 36 or so hours straight?

My point being, these BB engines were designed for this! Maybe I'm not getting it, but after last season when many of us blew up our motors, I started to really think about this. Oil temp was not an issue. Marc and I both agreed a LONG time ago that oil temp and water temp, while co-exist, were not necsscrily that closely related, due to the RPM range we run. But we agreed that while heat transfer from oil to water was not as closely related in a boat as it would be in a car or truck, the added oil capacity in all of our boats should negate that differential. Especially since they are run for much shorter bursts.

Sorry for your loss. The bowl breaking off was the second to last thing I was thinking would happen.
RE the new blower; I think the big pulley is supposed to go on the bottom, I'm just saying.
The boat sure looks nice. Thanks for your input. Reality trumps rumors and stories every time in my book!

Knowing Dozzr, the pulley on the bottom is the size of a trailer wheel.......... :screwy:

Those of us running headers are doing just that!

I remember Ralph and I had a conversation at Elsinore once (in early January) about how cold the water was. I commented how Moo always ran about 140 no matter what, where or when, and his wouldn't didn't go over 100 or something that day. Same setups, no logs.

The logs, however, are aluminum, and I think that might not be a good idea to divert the cold water from them.  :screwy:

Are you running a thermostat? Your temps seem higher than I've ever gotten with logs. I've never gotten Pickle over 160-170 with your setup.

To be honest with you though, at 180-200, you're right in the normal street range for the engine, and I for one would leave it alone. That is the exact range your engine was designed, tested, developed and intended to run at........

Keep running yer drill until it does. Takes awhile to get the lifters bled. Last time I did it on a chebbie was with Tdawg and I think it took somewhere quite north of a half an hour with a drill to get ALL the lifters pumped up

Gotta tell ya. Being stuck back east with only broadcast TV......this SUX!

Apparently, because some spoiled brat (and balding like me but half my age) rich kid who lives off an unlimited tax subsidy in England found a hottie, the rest of the world has ceased creating problems or news......... :screwy: Focking news channels.......I knew nothing of all this hoopla about it. There wasn't this much crap when the whole Lady Diana thing happened, and my ex-wife was addicted to it at the time!

So, like the rest of you who are anxiously awaiting the snob wedding of the century, I find the time to look into this English "Royalty" wedding. GREAT.....another episode of someone getting out of a carriage that the only difference between them and the Horses that drew it is the white dress.......(Sorry, I never felt Diana was attractive, Fergie kinda, Camilla, REALLY, wiiiiiillllllllburrrrrrrr) .

So......I start watching........no choice......start getting a little excited.......is this Wench HOT or WHAT!?!?!?

I'm all into Princesses now............ :banghead:

I think she wants a ride in a Moo boat myself, tell me this isn't what everyone wants sunning on the deck of the boat?................. :sly:

And, not to be out done by Britney....but with taste..........

Rant over........kinda........ 8)

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Installing MSD distributor
« on: April 28, 2011, 08:48:51 PM »
Alright so today we got it figured out.  It was the pickup on the dizzy, we swapped in a mallory unilite, and with alligator clips being used as grounds it fired right up haha.  I'm going to send in the MSD for a warranty claim.  Would you guys suggest running the unilite or the MSD? I appreciate the help guys !  ;D

Lots of these guys run MSD successfully. I run Mallory. All in preference. I've not had a single issue with the Unilites, others will say the same for MSD. Horror stories like yours abound for either, including HEI, however. Since you have the Unilite in AND it's working, why mess with it more?  :sly:

If you're going to run it, I'd get the Hyfire 6AL and pawn off or return the MSD box you have, however.
