I had a Cutlass brought here to Phoenix a couple years ago from Atlanta. Cost me $850. Showed up on one of those "lead sleds" or "Hot shots"........1 ton pickup with a 5th wheel 5 or 6 car hauler...........just an FYI.

My mom gave one of the "center curb sign holders" 10 bux one day while she was out here. kids told me about it.

Well, Just cause your dad's friend said this, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that. My Moo boat had a brand spankin' new battery, and had to be jumped and towed several times in one weekend (Brad towed it, Chromey towed it, and I think both and others jumped it more than once in the course of one day). Ended up ripping one of the batteries out of my F350 for the rest of the weekend, using vice-grips for a battery clamp on it........

Not that unusual.......

Sounds like your timing is way off not a batt or starter and thats why it will not idle

Basically when I had one battery hooked up it didn't have enough cranking power to start it but when I hooked up the second battery it cranked fine a friend of my dads said it was because the cam was at TDC and in just needed more cranking power to spin it

And this. Could be something as simple as a junk battery. I've run single batteries has high as 13:1 compression, or 9:1 compression and blown and never heard of this! Chris (88Carrera) should be able to help you diagnose this easily enough.

Could be cam timing is way off, but I kinda doubt that unless the timing set is junk. This would explain the idle condition as well, maybe. dunno.

Personally, I'd be looking at a junk battery and a junk throttle cable as the probable cause for 99% of your issues. Rest assured, it's almost ALWAYS the simple chit that we overlook..........

This ^^^ was the most brilliant idea I had ever heard! Makes any future teardown a snap! 

But if it is an o-ring seal between the transom adaptor and the bowl, don't grease it, don't use Vaseline or any other petroleum based product. It'll eat that rubber alive. Use Silicone Lube (You can get small containers of it at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, larger tubes of it from any Pool Supply for about $7. If you have a pool, it's the same stuff you use on the pump basket cover    )

If it's just a bead of silicone, use a good  marine silicone that comes in a caulking tube, not the Kitchen and Bath stuff........If the TA had a gasket to the hull, I wouldn't bother with a new one, Just silicone it on as well. Now the guitar string GT mentioned, before you Silicone bead around the bowl, wrap a Guitar string (round wound G string works best) around there, all the way around, and pull it through it's ball end at the top of the bowl, then stuff it up in there as far as you can, cinched tight. Then Silicone bead over it. If you ever have to remove the bowl or TA adaptor again, just yank on the guitar string, Silicone gone!  Can even remove the bowl without removing the TA most of the time!!

Are you referring to an overly deep "V" entry angle on one of these small boats? Like a Biesemeyer, Saguaro and certain Sleeks?

Then yes! I agree with the other statement, and will also warn of heavier "Chine Walking", at "higher than prudent but most of us try anyway", speeds. Which plays into Rogers Hopeful's original summation.

Moo had a bad habit like that also early on. It miraculously disappeared when I replaced the ignition switch (Which had fallen apart in my hand, not that I suspected it......)

Dunno what an LQ9 is. But an LS2 or 3 makes an EXCELLENT momo in one of our squirtguns from what I have seen!

Just my personal .02 on this since you ain't bought anything yet, here's where I'd go and wish I did and had been done with it years ago......

Yes, 21' and over is probably what you need to be looking at for a "Family oriented" boat, with enclosed engine, etc. The noise generated by our open engines is NOT gonna make the lil woman happy, normally (even with baffles), and the little man isn't gonna be able to roam around like an open bow or a 21' is going to be able to provide.

That said and done, forget anything Small Block, save for maybe LSx power, and even that comes with a big cost. You need the torque of a big block to work these things. NOW, given lake only and no river work, you CAN go to an outdrive, and small block is fine, GT is your man there, but on Rivers, A jet is the choice. It can almost run on a wet linoleum/tile  floor!  and still keep up with the outdrives if set up right.

What I'm saying is there are a LOT of variables in what you want to do. But if Jet is the way you want to run (And I would be cheering you on for that) stick with the BB, not the SB unless you wanna get REAL fancy like some of us do!!

I like the idea! I did a few of those back east. Problem is the venting of them and sometimes the plumbing, depending. Arizona is pretty strict on those, I can only imagine Cali........I mean, a 10 drop limit like a magazine ban, whatever.

Check codes before you try this depending on where your tank is, but I agree! Money well spent given the right logistics!

I had that happen here a couple years ago. Sucks to be sure!

I came home from the Father's Day deal at Big River (An "Unofficial" "Official must see event") to water running out of my garage into the street...........was NOT a pleasant Sunday evening...........Monday was worse changing the freakin thing. Fortunately, it didn't leak into the basement like my LATEST pool draining endeavor did..........
