Hey bud,
so finally caught up with scat engine builder. Hey quoted me 350$ + parts.
You'll get a fresh motor. That's for a long block. He does solid work and he stands by his product. I've got a few motors from him, an 1835 as well.
Turn around time is about a month depending on scats work orders.
Yeah I'll look to night I don't think I'm going to make it your way tomorrow I just picked this up

sound advice herei know one of SCAT vw performance's engine builders....hes very close to my shop, i can ask him how much it be to rebuild with new bearings, rings....or make it a turnkey motor for you. with the parts from randog. up to you.
Jake that motor looks like it's been sitting opened up no dizzy no oil cooler good chance there's a bunch of dirt or even worse water how does the oil look have you popped off a valve cover and looked at the rockers if it was mine I would take it apart and put new bearings in it and rings I have a dog house shroud oil cooler type one dual solex intakes a good alt a 009 dizzy all the stuff you need to make it complete

so. in the pic of 1835...you have cylinder tin, pulley tin, and front tin....by flywheel. not sure if you have the pieces that go underneath.... cant tell in pic. your missing oil cooler, fan shroud, generator, dist....and proly a few other things. also looks like the stock linkage for type 3 dual carbs. which you can use if you have them. may need taller manifolds tho, not sure. with dual port heads you mention....besides machining them to accept bigger cylinders, should work for you. a stock dual port carb set up will also work....not the highest performing....but will be fine once tuned. if you look at the trans you have sitting on ground...that you sent a pic of, then look at the one mounted in car....should look just about identical, focus on the axles. this is a swing axle trans. and irs trans will have what looks like bellows....cv boots...one close to trans the other by the wheel.

The 1300cc is a 40hp motor and the only things that are the same is the fan shroud. The rest of the tin will not work. The 1500cc motor isn't s good starting point only because there are no cam bearings and the strokes are different which means a skinny motor. So exhaust will not fit either will tin to a 1600cc. 1600cc are what just about everyone builds good street motors from. A 1600 can only go to a 1641 with out machine work. If you have a 1835 (69mm crank, 92 barrels) you are done unless you do machine work. The next size pistons and barrels are 94mm and they do not fit in the 92mm bore. You can swap 90.5 and 94, 85.5 and 87, but thats all. If you have an 1835 long block, single port. Change the heads and manifold. Use a 30 or 34 pict carb and you will be fine.

beaveretriever has the answer. you may be able to swap drums up front....as long as bearing races match. if not, youll have to buy some to make it work. someone at one point either swapped transaxles from drum to drum...or swapped axles and brake assemblies only. tell you what, that type 3 trans you have will bolt right up and youll have your 4 lug pattern all the way around, with better rear brakes. which is better for bajas in the dirt. its very much a direct swap. assuming your running a 12v system, with 12v starter/flywheel.
as far as the motor, sure, people have done similar combos many times. still, youd be better off with a legit 1600...dual port, single port if you have to...they work fine as well. dual port keeps more options open for future performance mods. there is a single port following..., theres just more for dual port. 1500 engine can be bumped up to 1600 with zero machine work. simply change pistons and cylinders. easier said than done....but really not difficult, you dont even have to get into the case(block). WAIT, you do have an 1835 long block. if its a single port....swap it too! all external stuff...cooling tin, dist., generator/altenator...will swap directly over. may have to tune carb a little for bigger engine....but not too much. if its dual port....you can get a stock dual port manifold and carb and run it. or dual carb set up for a little more giddy up. later, if you want...you can go up to 1914 from 1835....again with no machine work.

Second. In the video that YOU shared, which is not what I would call a Nobel prize winning piece, said how harmful to health and environment diesel emissions are. Apparently you had selective deafness when that part aired... The dipshit mechanic was just down playing it based on absolutely no factual information at all.... But you bought it... What is he going to do? say " yeah what we're doing is actually very detrimental to the environment and can cause severe adverse health effects... C'mon man... Just because there is no law saying you can't do it, does not mean that it should be done... They aren't in California, or even the U.S.
It is like comparing filthy dirty coal fired power plants in China to ours and saying "hey, they do it"... Ever seen their air quality index? You can get cancer by going outside for an hour during the day.
Third, I do combustion analysis for a living. So yeah, I probably know quite a bit more than you about the subject.
Fourth, the proof is in about every air quality management study that has been done over the last 40 years. Not to mention the National Cancer Institute and the American Lung Association and the World Health Organization.
Mining companies spend buttloads of money trying to prevent miners from breathing spent diesel exhaust, this is not even speaking directly about thick black soot.... Diesel exhaust in general... So your saying the high carbon content shit you can't even see through is completely environmentally negative...

Before that I was an automotive service technician and boat mechanic, I worked on both commercial and pleasure water craft. I spent nearly 15 years on that trade before doing what I do now.

You ever heard of the off road campaign of "Tread Lightly"? do you know why that came about? It was because of stupid irresponsible douche bag punks going out onto public lands and destroying natural habitats. Why in the hell do you think the BLM and other Nazi government agencies were able to come in and take over? Because these morons gave them the tools necessary to do so... Nothing else. They had evidence of total disregard of the environment and were able to convince congress, the president and the general public that they had to step in... Basically had to be your mother...
Why do you think diesel trucks are now being SMOG inspected? Because of what people are doing by "Rolling Coal" on people and being a complete punk dick.... You gave them every tool they needed to establish this precedent. You mother had to come in and take control....
Why do you think most inland lakes, with very few exceptions now have a decibel restriction for noise? Again, because super loud isn't loud enough and we have to be dry stack headers and bus the marinas and water front housing... Again, needed mother to come clean up your act.
Why do you think it is that Caterpillar completely quit building DOT diesels? Because it was too expensive and difficult to build a reliable diesel service engine to meet the new DOT standards...

FWIW, to anyone reading this thinking they know everything because some fuctard in Saskatchewan says it is less pollution than a gasoline engine exhaust, he is totally FOS. Diesel exhaust carries 200X the emissions that a car can create. Even if that car ran like total crap.
Just so you know... You know that purpleish/brown nasty smoke looking shit you see in the sky in metropolitan areas? That my friends is NOX (oxides of nitrogen), diesel exhaust produces more than 25% of that NOX... Still think it's "environmentally Harmless"?
You also think that because a large portion of the black smoke "falls to the ground" that it does not get into the water supply and contaminate everything that lives in, drinks and swims in that water?
Think again.

Well damn. If I would have known that before, do you have any idea how many billions of dollars I could have saved Caterpillar, Cummins, International, Isuzu, Mercedes, Ford, and any other diesel engine manufacturer?
I could have also saved my customers trillions of dollars and not converted all the process boilers and retrofitted them with low/no NOX burners and they also would not have had to change out their outdated diesel standby generators
Sometime needs an education in air quality.

there is proof... he has a letter stating that his truck was seen with a huge cloud of smoke coming off of it. someone obviously felt so strongly about it that they reported it. then he goes on to say that he has a whole tune dedicated to making as much smoke as possible. and then owns up to actually doing it. what else do you need? a video?
I don't know how all you guys own these diesel trucks and have never wanted to blow a lil cloud at the Honda civic with his stanced out cambered in wheels riding your ass. Or that asshole walking in the middle of the street for no reason. Or the guy next to you with his bass turned all the way up. There's a big difference between people abuse it and people who don't have a choice as in pulling uphill on boost and people are riding bikes or jogging uphill. My point is you don't know if he is doing it or not so why jump on the guy ?? That's not what this site is about
