Remember.... Rotating assy will have to be clearanced/etc.
Fairly inexpensive short block assy, if you go cast stuff

" CHECKING a CAMSHAFT for ISSUES "
Putting it in a Lathe, Zero in your Centers, Check Journals for Out of Roundness/Bend (usually caused by shipping )
Check Journal O/D with a Mic. Check actual Cam Lift and Lobe taper with a dial indicator and then go from
there......... Determine your cam journal to cam bearing oil clearances with a telescoping guage and then
procede with Degree'ing etc..
Most of the times I have seen problems caused by SHIPPING, more than anything else.
Putting it in a Lathe, Zero in your Centers, Check Journals for Out of Roundness/Bend (usually caused by shipping )

there......... Determine your cam journal to cam bearing oil clearances with a telescoping guage and then

Omar... If there is a CAM-Walk/Thrust Wear issue, ISKY Makes a "ANTI-CAM WALK ASSY"
to correct that.........I have machined blocks for them and they work great...Beats scrapping the BLOCK.
AS far as those pistons; they cross over to a "TRW L-2349 ".
They are designed for closed chamber heads, but can be used for open chamber heads too
so long is clearances are checked . They are L-S6/454 pistons and w/118cc heads
they will get you +/- 10:1 c/r.....so long as all the math is correct.
Good luck and take your time.

I agree w/Tom...Those look like Ls6 pistons. I will look them up for you tomorrow
at work. The heads are +/- mid 70's truck heads,open chamber about 120cc.
BUT I would have that CAM CHECKED...Pics. won't work.
It looks like the lobes are worn beyond the case hardness.
Typically the r/w hardness should be +/- 48/52 and the lobe taper
should be +/- .0015/ .002 for proper lifter rotation. Have it inspected just to
be safe......As Ralph said, do not mix up the cam followers!
Also check the block out for cam walk (for wear behind the cam gear on the block)
And correct as needed.

Once again.... It all depends on what the customer wants.....
I been building Engines, full time for the last 30 years, and
I know from customer follow-up that customers do not like
to mess with the valve train.
I good friend of mine "76 Nordic" is running a custom hyd. cam
and I know he is happy with it...... Once again , this subject
is very controversial............ Contact Isky Cams or another
CamGrinder and get their input. Good Luck

If you want dependability and are willing to give up a little rpm.....My choice would be HYDRAULIC,
Just get a GOOD ONE. CompCam or ClaySmith etc. Top it off with Roller Rockers.

Late 1980's... Damage at my shop. +/- 50 or so crankshafts that where standing up got
damaged. "Girl friend" runs out of the house "Totally Naked" like a dumb ass.
Today...I get home from work,...Check out the house... Everything ok.
Just some things out of place. Go to my garage where my precious 66' Corvette is sleeping,
and I find a Light fixture laying on my hood...Which took a chunk out of my hood .
Earthquakes suck....It seems that the city of Whittier always has "Sht" Happen
