Why the plastic wrap around the engine?   ???

Thats warshington state homey, they get more water on the top of their boats then the bottom!

No  ::), it looks like it's in Tom's shop (Jet Boat Performance), I think he does that to keep peoples boats cleen. Last time I was there all the boats were covered with that stuff.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: 460 noise

NOW I'M COMPLETLY CONFUSED !!!!!!!  I went out tonight to check things again / reset the valves / and put the tall valvecovers on it. Simple stuff right?  NOOOOOO !!!!  I set the motor on TDC #1 and the rocker was not tight ( it's a hydraulic cam ) so I lossened the lock, set the rocker to contact and as i tried to add some preload to it I could see the valve spring start to compress, WTF, now it thinks it has solid lifters ! I'm going to pull the intake off and check the lifters and I swear if I find solid lifters in my motor I'm going to visit the motor builder and STAND ON HIS NECK until he explanes how thay got there !!!  I took him a Isky hydraulic cam and lifter set for this motor last time it was apart !! I can also see by the marks on the push-rods from the guide plates that the push-rods are sitting higher than the they did before.

Can you post some pics of the intake on it now?  Mine came with a factory ford Cobra-Jet intake on it . And it realy isnt that bad of an intake, just heavy.

Thanks speedymopars , I didnt even think about the studs (thay are screw in  ::) ), I'll check that next !  But you guys also might be right about the gaskets, I think the ones I used in the past were realy thick.  :-\

Jet Pumps / Re: polish pump
« on: September 24, 2007, 01:29:32 AM »
Whew,  after reading about the polishing process, I think I'll just clean, strip and then power coat mine.

It's realy not that bad. I polished all the parts on my bike last winter ( frame, wheels, swingarm, etc, etc, etc.) .  For painted parts I used aircraft stripper in a spray can from Kragens, for anodized parts use Ez off oven cleaner ( let it sit on there until it turns black than whipe it off ) than started sanding. What sandpaper to start with will depend on the condition of the part, but if you are going to try to polish by hand work your way all the way up to 2000 grit wet, and be picky any flaws will show ( you will see them more than other people becauce you know where thay are). I finished with 1500 wet and than used a buffing wheel from Lowes on a drill , they also sell the compounds and it all worked fine. Finish it off with some Mothers polish by hand and your done .  ;D  Try some small parts first !!!!

I wonder if you doubled the gaskets if that would solve your problem?  I don't know if that's a solution or not that would be accepted by the real mechanics on here or not.  Just my 2 cents.

I have a new set of Ford racing tall valve covers, but havent cut out the breathers yet . So I just put the old ones back on for some test & tune. I just dont understand why thay hit now and didnt before ??

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 noise
« on: September 23, 2007, 01:17:49 PM »
I finally got my motor fired up last night , but things just didnt sound right  ??? , I figured it had some little problems from sitting so long and it was late so I would fix it today. Today I went out to play with it and saw this  :o ( rockers hitting the valve covers )!! WTF these are the same valve covers I had on the motor last year , and I didnt change anything in the motor !!!  All the rockers are still tight, nothing loose , cant see anything wrong  ???.  I know it wasnt like this before, you can see the valve cover move and hear the noise when it cranks over  ??? ???.

Also this is only on the right side of the motor.  No I just looked closser ,its on both sides , but the left side is not as bad, it's the intake rockers only.

Anybody have any idea WTF is going on here ???

the rocker arm

the valve cover ( look just above the d )

From what I can find I think it is a Cadillac  :o ::) :-\ O0

I think we have a WINNER !! That sure looks like a 472/500ci Cady to me. I've never seen one in a boat before, but it's not a bad idea. HUGE torque and even though its the size of a BBC it only weighs about 50lbs more than a SBC, just keep it under 5000rpm or BAD things can happen !!

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: the reacuring CRACK
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:09:52 PM »
ok, how did you do the magical floating motor trick? haha ....wheres the front mount?!

Well Brad , its like that because BB Fords are so light and make soooo much power that even gravity cant hold them down !!! :o  But dont worry I'm going to get some chains to keep that BEAST under control !! ::)

Honestly it has a strange mounting.  The bellhousing mounts to the pumps intake , and there is a cradle that goes under the motor from stringer to stringer and up to the stock motor mount bolts. The cradle looks like some redneck engineering, but it works.

I just want to say thanks to everyone on the site, without you guys I dont think I would have had the motivation to finish this thing !!  Hopefully this weakend it will be back on the water !!!   ;D ;D ;D
