Is there a polarity on these? Thinking of running batter and starter to one post. The PGMR wire and power to fuse block on the other. Will that work?

I'm putting in a new solenoid and converting the starter to a new PGMR starter. Instructions say to run battery cable, starter cable, alternator cable on one post. From the looks of it I don't think I can fit all these on one terminal. Any suggestions?

No expert here but did you change the solenoid? They go bad too!  Anyways marine starter yay or nay? Looking at the 5.7 starter from DB electric

I haven't pulled the starter yet but in almost positive it's the original starter if that helps

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Another 460 starter question

Had a good time at the SCJB run this weekend! It was good to finally meet some of you. Anyways I was lucky enough to have the starter die on me while waiting to pull the boat out last night. Is a marine starter necessary? I have a closed hatch but always run the blower and open the hatch most of the time when starting it. Not trying to go cheap but from what I've heard most everyone is running a normal starter right?

Got the new alternator from DB electrical. Super cheap and got here quick! Couple questions,

1) the new alternator has a smaller diameter mounting hole on top and won't fit on the rod coming out of the block, just barely. Can I drill this out or is there like a reducer fitting to change rod?

2) lame question but does this fan look like its a cw rotation?

3) am I over complicating the install? The old alternator has two wires. I take it only the power is used?

Thanks SCJB

Did you get this from the big box stores or did you have to order it?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 alternator wiring/not charging
« on: June 02, 2016, 05:20:41 PM »
I have a quick question, my alternator only seems to have two wires coming off of it. Is that right? It is definitely not charging. I don't know if it ever has, I just picked this boat up and it's been sitting for 17 years so I'm pretty sure the alternator is shot. Think I'm going to be safe and just change it do I need a marine alternator?

If you could buy a brand spanking new carb what would it be. I'm looking at the Holley 9381. My setup is a fairly stock 460 w rpm performer intake. It's a 21' mini day so it a big boat. Whatcha think?

It was running with 800, surprisingly good. The other has been in the "other" project boat. Currently for sale less carburetor until I get this sorted out. It ran on the project boat but I think the 800 ran better. I got it from a guy that said it was rebuilt but I don't think it's adjusted right. If I get the rest of what I have to do I think either will get me through the weekend but I'm thinking long haul.

Rebuild the 800 that has been sitting for 15 years, or buy a new one, or steal the 750 from the other project temporarily, or permanently lol

Another question. I have the original carb that came on the boat. Says it's a Holley 4782-2. 800cfm double pumper. It's in rough shape. The other is the Holley 4150 750cfm. Good shape but obviously needs a rebuild, hence the leak. Which one would you rebuild?

I think that might be the leak too. I Think I'm going to rebuild it. At least then I have a shot of making it to the lake this weekend

My carb is leaking fuel out of the arm that connects to the throttle linkage. I'm sure it could use a rebuild. Who's the carb guru in So Cal?
