Hulls / Re: Sleekcraft?
« on: February 18, 2010, 06:41:07 PM »
18'? Looks a LOT like one of mine! 1/4 stringer not a problem with even some major HP. (Glenn??) I'm no expert, but here's my .02

Actually, Sleek made, or makes, 3 performance hulls that I know of. 2 are 20', one a 21', and a few "to order" hulls I've heard of.
The 3 hulls I speak of were all available as either tunnel hulls or V-Bottom. (Part of my research trying to figure out just what the hell the Pickle was for 3 months)

Good, solid boats, IMO. But I am biased. I have a Hallett here, and a Saguaro (Beisemeyer clone), and had another Beisemeyer and Sanger here, and an Eliminator for a short period. A few others I'll leave out to protect everybody. To be prefectly honest, without getting into hull hook or rocker, and picky snot you're gonna find in ANY hull, I see no quality difference when they are side by side.

I CAN say this though! IN the sunlight, I can look under the bow, gunnels, anywhere and not see light coming in on my Sleeks. I CAN, however, in every single one of those hulls that have been, or are, in my yard! Could be wear and tear, I get that, or lighter layups, but I've seen some scarey spots in them with what appears to be no fiberglass supporting the resin. The 18' Hallett is probably the heaviest thing I have ever seen, by tongue weight, my ol' 21' was nothing to lift compared to that thing! Could be no engine?  :sly:

Looks like a decent boat. Put an eyeball on it and post more pics if you have time before you need to make a decision, but looks to me like a modified Rebel, Kauai, or possibly a Sportster model. I'm betting Rebel. (Coincidence, PURE coincidence!)

I got a couple around Boost, but one says "Saguaro Boats" on it, and the other "Sleek Craft" .........

Dun got any with the lightening holes in them to make them more aerodynamic, else you'd be welcome to it......... ;D

I'd be happy to drill holes on one of 'em for yah though bud!  ;)  lol.

Ray

PS send a pic to Tom and JRork as well. Might be able to pick up a used one pretty cheap. Surprises me Jim doesn't have one in his extensive inventory, or GT for that matter. They have everything!

I like the comments on Moo! Kinda why I like the boat,  ;D.

Two things were commonly said at Temple Bar last year. "Wow, the Moo Boat is here" and "Who the hell would paint a boat like that"  :-\

I think the latter was HDRider..........lol.

No worries bud! Just tryin to help.

Sorry Ralph I been too busy playing boat, but here you go 928 767 3211

Also Thanks for posting a map Jeremy

So everyone knows after you take the turn off for temple bar the road is 27 miles of desolate road, and that part to me absolutely sucks ass, but when you pull in there you soon realize it is all worth it....i will be there friday morning till monday!

Any other questions anyone can give me a PM or a call if you have my number I will be off work all of this week! Unfortunately work is slow!

One more thing are we going to do the saturday night pot luck again? If so we should probably get a list going

That desolate road is actually very scenic towards the end...........(wait sounds very much like a another activity........)

Anyway, the trip in is worth it!

Since Chromey's comin', I'll toss the spare grille in the truck again, and yeah, we do the pot luck dealio! That was AWESOME last year!

If Crewcheif's not comin, I got dib's on Chili (No Ralphs "Emergency, someone call the CDC" stuff, but good chit!). If Keith comes, I'll come up with sumpin.

Wild cam. Without going into whether the valvesprings can keep up with it (Could easily cause that very issue) I'm going after the MSD. Wheres the RPM limiter set at? or modules, I hear those things take those, right?

I'm with Brad on that thinking! The local lakes here are cool, once a month in summer, but that river, the three times I went there last year were a BLAST! No doubt it's cuz I own these itty bitty jet boats, but the three hour drive to Blythe, Big River, or even the 4 hours to the Avi? Worth every penny and minute!

That's true Tony, lol. They do tend to read like novels. Need to work on that   But adds more to my point that only a true friend would point that out so candidly.  ;)

LOL Ralph!! THAT is humour, and I still bruise easily!!  ::)

Brad is 100% right. I am probably the most guilty of all of it. Not even gonna go there! But I think maybe you are falling into the trap I set and put myself into about 7 months ago with this.

It's just very easy to read things on here and jump in thinking it's a conversation, not posts. It's just that same relaxed atmosphere that makes it so welcoming as well. What makes it easily being taken the wrong way is it ISN'T a face to face or group conversation, per se. Beleive me, half your posts would probably be VERY funny in person! (Some are anyway, I know the ones aimed at me I thought were funny! Even from a guy that's never seen Moo or met me, but that's me). Just be careful of what CAN be read into your posts. They can say Blue, and read Red.  :banghead:

Harry, we all welcome you here, and are glad you ARE here. As far as cliques? don't really exist, to my mind, its a perception. A lot of us get away with many many comments towards each other because we have all met and spent time in person, and we can almost predict when one of us will post on a subject and kinda tongue in cheek us. Glasscutter, Skip, OC2  Nordie and many more nail me good every time, relentlessly, but I don't hold them in any higher regard than anyone else on the site. I love those guys! And they know I'm never serious either. Actually, I should be checked, I need to have a more serious side now that I think about that!  ;).

I look forward to meeting you and seeing you at some of this summers events. SCJB or not. I did not research anything as Brad did, nor do I care to. I pretty much can figure out what happened from the subject matter from experience.

Can you see who the survey was filled out by?

If so I take back everything I said about Ralph and Skip!  >:D

Eh, they won't notice anyway Marc. Skips too busy on his lil endeavor and Ralphs still trying to fine tune, and deal with the potential litigation from, his Anthrax Chili incident.

I Agree,  Good Idea Brad.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: popping
« on: February 15, 2010, 09:21:21 PM »
Mine was all carbeuration. (sp) Just food for thought. Timing was spot on. At high RPM, with compression, makes sense. Funny thing with mine was, one of the carbs ran the boat better than two. Same carbs! ran one for awhile, then the other. Together on a new T/R, lean, go figure. Didn't have the extreme of the spark plugs, but did hear popping (Actually, Flytime heard it too while in the boat).

Good luck with yours!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: popping
« on: February 15, 2010, 08:34:58 PM »
I'd be guessing an extreme lean condition, given the popping (had that recently). Extreme lean will cause serious detonation and can easily mess up the plugs that way under decent compression. Read your plugs, what color were they? If there was a contact or interference issue, woulda been much worse than that I would think.

Just a guess, but from the sequence of events..... ;)

Put one, years ago, in one of my pops' old 1 ton dump trucks (I think it was a 77 truck, dunno engines year, but 60's I'm pretty sure). Thing ran STRONG for all the years he had it! Supposedly a "Police Interceptor" version, whatever that may mean, it did have a good lope to it's idle and unknown what the mileage was on it when we did this. Dunno anything about them, never did, just a good deal when we needed an engine.

Only sold it to buy another 5-ton truck. Moved around a 5500, or better, lb truck, with a 2+k load on it just fine. Empty, would lite up the dual rear tires pretty easily. I would think it would be perfectly fine motivating any jet boat.
