OK, In all my research, I initially torqued the T/R on Moo at 65 ft/lbs (as best I could). Obviously, might not have been enough (yes, I retorqued after running her a couple of times). The cast iron intake was spec'd at 95 I think.

First thing, is there a sealant I should be using other than RTV black on the front and rear of the intake, and to help seal the gaskets? ( Rubber end seals are not used in this case, using a bathtub under the T/R). I want to do it right this time around! So is there a better sealant?

Second, I'm guessing my torque was a little low, should I use the 95 or 65? (Torquing this thing is a nightmare with the 17PH stainless allen bolts, mind you!) I am assuming the first time I did it, torquing the vertical studs between #2 and 3 and 6 and 7 first was wrong, (Followed factory torque procedures)

Any thoughts?

No, really, Skips got you on the right track. You can literally toss a 20% or better HP increase just by the right cam/lifter/spring package with a good single plane, or really a good dual plane intake. Provided the bottom end is in good shape.

A lot depends on current compression ratio, load, IE, impeller and pump condition, etc.

Anything above a, say "260" cam, is probably going to respond better in a boat with a single plane. Barry, Dave or Paul will correct me here if I'm wrong, but I would be looking at something like a Comp Cams 292 Marine package and a Weiand Stealth or Victor intake. Going to require some work degreeing it in and making sure valve/piston clearances are ok, but a pretty potent package on ANY brand engine and some pretty damn good bang for the buck. But again, the 292 likes compression!  If lower, might want to step back to the smaller cams.

Jeezuz Marc! That's almost 6 gallons a minute and .1 gallons a second.........at max output.........How big are your tanks???

If your engine can use even 1/3 of that flow, and I have every reason to beleive it CAN, the Exxon Valdeez wouldn't hold enough fuel for you for a day!

hey Ray, hose clamps and heater hose for a car that has a max of 20psi is a BAD IDEA on a jet pump that produces well above that 20psi. try A N fittings and 300psi hose...... it wont blow off and flood your boat.

Fittings and hose are here to do it Ralph  . Some of it's done already, that's a pic from last Feb when I built the thing. Blowing off the hoses only happened once, and that was due to missing tightening one clamp, 

The driver header control has complicated how I'm going to go about it now..........but I think we got it figured out  .

But I agree with Skip. Even Tom told me at the time, it's just not needed. I've milkshaked more engines than I care to admit this past year (5, Moo twice), and I don't beleive pump pressure had anything to do with any of them.

I have one on mine. Don't think it was anywhere near $100 I got from Tom. Dunno if it's even necessary either but my paranoid ass wanted one on Moo after she was built. I don't beleive any water has ever passed out it's o/b dump.



It's coming out of the boat, BTW. Just not necessary. I'll probably use it on the Saguaro for awhile 'til I'm convinced it ain't needed there either.
