I don't remember you having trouble at the AVI. I'm kinda old, but probably wasn't part of that!  I do remember the Laker Boat coming it at Big River limping like a blown engine and Nick (CJ222) and Ralph practically rebuilding his carb right there on the beach and he was golden in about an hour! So I'm with you on the SCJB gang! Can't find better peeps anywhere! 

The Pertronix will probably help many things, but an intermittent ignition failure would indicate POSSIBLE other issues that I don't think it's going to fix bro! Given what I know of the situation.

Yes wiring, for 1. But is water getting to the dizzy through a small, spray like leak from the pump or even outboard spraying in (Ask Crewcheif about that one, he warned me ahead of time for this on Chebbies with Jacuzzi's, why does he have a splash guard?).

I had an issue with a boat I still own, but is, well, in Davy Jones' Locker at the moment and probably permanently, that did something like this as well and it took the Vegas crew (OC2, Nordie and HDRider) to figure out it was the ignition switch, and possibly a couple bad wires at the engine. A $16 fix that I know Terry was stumped on big time for a bit!

Same thing happened with Moo. After I built the engine (Built for another boat, really), and installed it, the wiring, plumbing, et al, went to fire it up for the first time, put the key in and nothing, several times! Pulled the key out, the whole guts came out with it. Did fire it with a screwdriver but wouldn't stay running, had to hit a marine store the next day for a new switch. Now I carry one under the seat of each boat.

Be careful just changing things out without figuring out the why's, IMHO. (I'm knee deep into a similar debacle figuring out where a gallon and a half of water found its way into Moo's engine. Not an easy thing sometimes, but best to get it right the first time by asking why?) You're making the right decision to go electronic, I'm just not convinced it's the source of evil.

I ain't much help on alt brackets on Chebbies tho. Mine look custom made. I'll post pics in the morning, (Boats cover is half full of water and I think I'm in for a Glasscutter ordeal on this one tomorrow, saw an empty beer can floating in it when I peeked under the cover this morning!) but they resemble Ford SCJ low mounts. (Had this same issue with Moo, amazing how something that should be simple perplexes ya).

Mounting it low like mine is, I dunno if I'da used a rebuilt one. Just thinking out loud.

I've been told that this year 2010 wont be as good a year for us Local 12 Operators... so Im not doing any spending untill work picks back up.
As the boat sits right now, its about 2 years out from where I want it.
As far as this season goes... just gonna throw in some higher compression pistons (8.1 now) and call it a day!
I just want to be able to attend these gathering with you guys this summer since I got such a late start on it last year.

And what a grand summer its already shaping up to be! Glad to have your commitment on the comraderie! (thank gawd I have 2, nearly 3 running boats, back to 1 and 2 nearly running with Moo down right now  ) But I'll make them! 

You don't have to have a boat to attend these things, but it helps. (I have a problem with not showing up with a boat, but that's just me! I SHOULD have that problem given my inventory).

Next event (for me) is the Bartlett Lake gathering from the PB Eastsiders (some of you should see this!) in Feb, then Temple Bar, Memorial day at Sag, Fathers day at Big River, on and on and on........

You're in good shape Nate! Love your sled, and it's gonna be with you awhile! Leave it alone and go by your plan. Don't even try and compete with Boost on his timeframe. He has such a head start, for one, and I surmise Brian has quite a few things under cloak in that thing!  Gonna be a runner to be sure! It was before he decided to mess with it some more! Got pressure valves, sand filters, all that on there. Even a ball valve I nearly closed at Elsi when Skip told me I was literally DUMPING water from the headers leaving the dock. (Too late, apparently)

General concensus seems to agree probably intake gaskets, which would explain quite a LOT actually.

Oils being pumped out now (Must I've ever gotten out of this 12 qt system is 10 qts, we're at 14 and still going!). Filters looked good, drained them a bit through a coffee filter and no shavings! 

Put some new in it tomorrow, run that for a bit, drain it again, pull the intake for a look see! 
She can't be down for long, OC2 called for a Milk delivery!

My worst fears about the XM cam I used and compression and reversion came true! She's getting a driver mounted control of some sort! These T valves weren't designed for this type of application, methinks!

I dunno, Moo always holds (Or held, other issues pending) at 150-160, Even at the local Saguaro lake.

The Vac sec'y s are what I had at the time (new), and had been working fine.

Got Moo all hooked up to go this morning, cleaned up, battery charged, then I checked the oil and this is what I found.



About 4 quarts too high and grey?

dont worry ray i blame the cold water conditions and thats why it wasnt building any engine temp hence the poor performance

Lol! no! I'd like to blame that, but it was perfect conditions! Engine temp hit 160 right at the dock and stayed there all day! (Although Skip noticed a LOT of header water coming out as I had to feather it at around 1200 rpm in the NWZ, wouldn't idle, that concerns me).

Nope, Completely my fault!  It was running mostly OK at Avi (Last time it was really out for more than an hour) I filled up a tank at the dock in Pirates Cove. Thing started this crap then. Burned up all that fuel on the way back to the AVI intentionally. Figured that was that and the couple times I had it out since I ran it on the other tank (AV gas). Also filled it up at Elsinore on pump 91 which didn't help I'm sure. 

I'm quite sure I need to go through the carbs again (Or have it done, more correctly), probably some serious tuning on them. Nordie and Boost think I'm chasing my tail with those vac secy's, and need double pumps, but I think it'll be ok! lol.

Taking it out again tomorrow (A girl I met wants to join the Sea Level club!  Dunno if she knows what exactly that IS, however.....), just drained the tanks today and filled it with av gas and sta bil, we'll see if that helps any.

She'll be ready next year! Unless I bring sumpin else! Still a solid 4000 rpm or so run in my book. Other than N8, Boost and Rivertard, I was the only other SCJB representative to make the attempt though I think!  I LOVE it!!!
