Hulls / Re: Leak.....
« on: April 24, 2011, 02:16:27 PM »
I have a pretty good leak somewhere in the middle of my boat  . I have a 79 charger mini day and my bilge came on every hour this weekend while it was sitting in the river . Not Gushing in but a steady trickle ...... I was planning on gel coating the boat this winter and really dont want to pull my subfloor and interior before summer, Could I get under the boat and try to locate the hole and fill it with 3m marine silicone??????  I know its a hole because the retard who owned the boat before me decided to use 2 1/2 tech screws to secure the seats . Thanks

pull the interior out and sit it in the water on the trailer and find out where the leak is coming from.  worst case drill it clean and epoxy glass in a plug, sand it smooth on both sides and do a little touch up gel.  dont wait or else you'll have to deal with water damage problems.  =)

3/8 Fuel Line , I never run the helper pump except to prime the motor after it sitting . Could the electric fuel pump be bad or slowing down the fuel flow from the mechanical one ???

the mechanical pump is probably struggling to suck the fuel thru the impeller of the electric one when its not on.

got a few things done hose wise for an hour today...

my ghetto vise

intake to exhuast hoses cut and hooked up.

pump to gate to T to exhaust manifolds...

as i went along i learned a few things.  a) these things dont bend easy.  b) take the amount of space the fitting threads onto the elbows into consideration when cutting.  if u dont, thats like 1/2" extra on each side and your hoses arent going to fit, hell sometimes i couldnt even get them to thread on because they were 1" too long at first. c) dont use painters tape or anything on the fittings.  it just gives the wrench space to move around and scratch up the anodizing.

still need my water inlets tapped to 1/2" and i gotta find some plugs or maybe have a plate made to block off the thermostat housing that im not using anymore.

just something to think about.  i didnt want headers due to noise, heat, and harrassment. but i didnt want the logs and snails either.

i never realized how physical it is.  looks like you're bouncing around constantly.  way different than the 30' dcb videos at 150mph while holding a wine glass.

welcome to the site.  nice work getting involved into boating at a young age.  i grew up around horsepower, and loud fast motors.  im only 30 but i wasted a lot of years messing around with cars and getting into too much trouble before realizing that you cant have a fast car anymore.  a few mustangs later i bought a SUV with the hopes of buying a "toy" and now i have my 18' boat that i can make as loud and as fast as i care to throw my wallet at.  growing up i spent a lot of time at the lake in flatbottoms and blown daycruisers.

i dont go to that lake (or any yet) but look forward to reading your project thread.  feel free to start one up and dont forget to keep the pics flowin.

« on: April 21, 2011, 07:04:46 PM »
do you have a little diagram/write up of how the ignition key is currently connected?  there should be a constant 12v from battery, one to starter solenoid, and then a 12v out to the ignition system.  when the key is off, theres no power to the ignition, when its on the ignition circuit should have 12v, when the key is turned to start it should send 12v to the starter relay/solenoid.

Jet Pumps / Re: Panther with American Turbine conversion
« on: April 21, 2011, 06:56:18 PM »
panthers have a ride plate but nothing with fins THAT big.  then the rudder on the pump itself is pretty big as well.  probably makes it turn and handle very well, but all that is drag and kills speed.

as a panther owner myself, id try to stay away from a boat with a panther.  parts are VERY hard to find and even though it has the back half upgraded (which is a VERY costly upgrade) theres plenty of boats out there with berk's that are gonna be easier to maintain, upgrade, etc.  i got very lucky with my current pump as the one that originally came in the boat sounded like a rock crusher when i started it up.

i thought the expedition got stolen. you got it back

yeah it was spotted that morning by street sweeping with a stolen plate so they called it in for towing, but by the time the tow truck showed up it was gone.  then they found the guy like 4 days later driving it around.  nothing stolen, nothing damaged.  kinda weird.  he did burn up 3/4 tank of gas and it cost like $600 to get it back after multiple trips to dmv/theft yard.  s
