homegoods in seal beach.  was lookin for a dresser for the bedroom and found the chair instead.  im 6'2 and it makes me look small.

took a few steps backwards this weekend...

pulled the motor out, went to put the dipstick tube in and it felt like it was hitting something... so decided to pull the pan.  glad i did.  found a bunch of goo in the bottom.  cleaned it all out, cleaned out the dipstick hole that had an old dipstick broken off in it...







decided im just gonna order a marine pan or find one someone has laying around. 



dropped the motor in, and as some know from performanceboats im having some problem with the driveline slipping on the spline when its being dropped. 

went ahead and flipped the carb around and hooked up my new 20' throttle cable and foot pedal.  im glad River Dad was so generous and gave me a pedal where the cable hooks up towards the front.  it allowed me to run the cable around the sides of the boat and then to the bow and back to the pedal.  that way i dont have a cable going thru the middle of the boat.  and its smooth...

started raining so i went back home and finished up wood seat frames.  started glassing up the curve with mat.  its stupid strong now.




then i found this folding chair.  i think its awesomely big.  not to mention has cupholders for 6 beers.

ran outa wood. gotta buy some for the strips to make the curved seat back, and then the bottoms of the seat cushions.  then ill slap em into the boat, trace the contour of the side, cut em to height, then use a rotozip/dremel to cut the round down areas of the arms, then fiberglass em up and off to upholstery shop.

got a few things accomplished:

purchased new throttle cable, going to flip the carb 180* and run the cable backwards and around under the floor.  that way i dont have to deal with it.

purchased throttle cable to carb quick disconnect/ball thingy

purchased bbc lower alternator bracket

purchased oil and water senders for gauges. 

acetoned the tanks and drained em, filled up with premium. im ready for boating!  found out they're 10gal tanks.  how long will 20gal last with a 454 keeping my foot out of it? 



started on the seat frames.  im using the blue ones as templates so i took em apart to find out how they were made.  replicating them into new seats with new wood, gonna fiberglass em up and water treat em where the upholstery shop needs to staple.    gotta go grab the rest of the wood and keep on chuggin.  going to be going on a little test run this weekend in long beach harbor. im excited to go idle around and make sure everything is solid before going on a lake trip. woo hoo

i find all kinds of help on engines, rigging, electrical, cooling, etc but theres a giant hole where boat interior knowledge should be.  ive scoured the internet for how to build seat frames... im pretty hands on when it comes to anything, i redid the fiberglass floor.  i gave a few shops a call on getting interior put in and i was shocked to find out that interior almost comes out to as much as ive invested in the boat itself.  so i found a pair of seats from 76 bonneville a while ago and recently took em apart to use em as templates to make new frames and glass em so they're nice and bulletproof.  hopefully i can get those to an upholstery shop soon and finish my project. 

anyone else do their own or did you just end up bending over at a shop?   

i got a GREAT deal on some left over marine grade insulated wire from west marine.  20' and i think it was like $1 a foot at the time.  i absolutely love that ill never need to touch this stuff again. only bummer is that i ended up needing 2 more wires but in the end i thnk it came out okay...

is that a single carb dooley scoop?  $$?

ign is fancy for 12v, and SIG/send is from the distributor.

a 32v 5.4 supercharged engine could easily put you in the 600+ hp range.  however do you REALLY want to put this huge freakin thing in your boat?  along with all the associated gear, fuel pumpS, etc?



im a big fan of mustangs, ive owned 4 and i love them in cars, i just dont think they're great for boating.  my 4.6 and 5.4 in my truck are really tall and wide engines... they also dont like moisture down in the plug holes.

aaand it begins... 

anyone know what those 2 legs sticking out of the bottom by the end of the pump are?  not the fins, the other 2 with the holes in em... were those for the cover?  they stick out like sore thumbs, id like to get rid of mine if they're not useful for anyhting.

I need a pto but don't know what 1350 means.

1310 - uses 3/8-24 bolts on 2" x 2-3/8" centers
1350 - uses 7/16-20 bolts on 2-3/8" x 2-7/8" centers

basically depending on the size driveline you have you need the corresponding PTO adapter.  the 1310 is the smaller of the 2, usually more common.  just measure the distance between the holes in your driveline and look at the bolt size.
