A puller is typically required to remove the impeller.  A 3-jaw puller is recommended but I use a lot of heat and a 2-jaw on all of the pumps I have rebuilt.  If you do decide to break it down yourself, make sure to reassemble with anti-seize to make life easier for the next go around.  Give it a shot, it's easier than it looks if you have the tools.

I will be doing the work for sure. I'll grab a 3 jaw from my friend and pull the impeller this weekend then strip the shaft, seals and bearings. Going to pick up another pump right now as well.

I got the nut off, but the impeller is on there good. It has a little shoulder in the back like you find on the front if a pulley. I won't mess with it if I need a puller.

On a positive note, I found a nearly complete pump for $400. Going to look at it tomorrow or Saturday and pick it up to build or have as a spare. Or if it is good enough I will stick it in the boat and complete build/rebuild this one over time.

And the inlet side.

Do I need a puller to get the impeller off?

I did this to both water lines on my friends boat so that we can fine tune the water going to the headers and the overall water flow through the engine.

first time out today at Elsinore. Something definitely wasn't right with the pump. The bowl is chewed up inside and the impeller is trash. Looks like someone ran it through some shallow water and sucked up a bunch of rocks. Found a golf ball sized rock wedged in the impeller. First time jet boat owner problems. Took a guys word for it and didn't a look at the pump myself. Guess it's time to upgrade. B.O.A.T.

They're good. Added a few degrees of timing to the bahner, a bunch of timing to mine, then tuned the carbs and we're good. Elsinore trip postponed until next week due to weather. And I guess mine is getting electronic ignition because points suck.

The No Wake Zone / Boat insurance

What is a good company to get insurance for my boat? I have been using progressive for years and they won't insure it because of the "exposed engine".

I know a place here in Costa Mesa that deals with vdo gauges but I'm not sure they are open on the weekends I'll get there number when I get home for u

Thanks. I will run down tomorrow if they are open. Otherwise it will get a cheap mechanical gauge just so I can keep an eye on things.

Changed fuel filters, changed carb studs, changed fuel pressure regulator, mounted carbs, made new carb linkage between carbs, new steering shaft seal, started to adjust carbs. Now to go work on Johnny's  (teamwindle) engine and drink beer.

Does anybody know where I can get a VDO oil pressure gauge like this locally?

One step closer to getting her on the lake this Sunday. Cross one thing off the list and add 3 more. Progress is progress I guess. Tomorrow will be a big day as I try to get mine going and the engine for my friends Bahner together and ready to put in Saturday.
