Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Electric fuel pump issues?
« on: June 14, 2009, 06:57:57 PM »
I think you need to sell the boat!

J/K!!

Sounds like you do NOT have the luck of the Irish! I'd say a bad pump, initially. Enclosed engine bay should have no effect on it. (GM has been running electric pumps IN the bottom of the gas tanks for over 20 years now! can't get more enclosed than that! But given your previous problems, that ain't it I don't beleive.

Now that my lil brain stirs a bit, the pump could be overheating because of the same issues that were causing the mechanical problems. It's werkin too hard to get fuel and kicked out a thermal. I still think you're gonna find a clogged or bent and kinked line either in the tanks or nearby. Possibly a clogged up tank pickup, or just a mass of gunk in the bottom of the tanks. Doesn't take much!

Did you try what Terry told you? Get a five gallon can of gas and run a hose from the inlet side of the pump into the gas can? Then work backwards by including the tank selector inline, then one tank, then the other.

I whole heartedly beleive there's some sort of clog there somewhere. Can't have 3 pumps now (I think if I remember right) all with similar issues!

Terry has it in his super secret skunkworks facility  :sly:........(his front yard). Otherwise known as Area 51 I'm told. More work gets done there than in most of our garages!  ;)

I'll let Terry spill the beans on this, already in another thread, but he knows more about it and what we're gonna do to it than I do, lol

I'm kinda thinking the same thing. But it stayed on forever until the Hyfire unit fell off the firewall and knocked it off the first time (good thing too, woulda destroyed the hyfire!). The belt flipped inside out and always is when it comes off. Ordered a reduction deep groove crank pulley, any ideas or anyone have a larger deep groove alt pulley layin around? Gonna try a new belt when the pulley gets here, hopefully that'll fix it!

Use a standard pulley and drill then break off the outer pulley, viola, single pulley!

Just bought a billet aluminum single sheave dealio, it's with my lil brother (machinist/boat burner) to see if he can reproduce better and deeper grooved, news at 11 on that.

Methinks we're gonna go back to the days (I'm talking 80's here) when the playing field was even, and guys like Bob Glidden could hold their own running Fords. (Even win championships).

Drag racing, and racing in general, was a sport where if you could score a few bucks from a manufacturer or anyone for sponsorship, COOL! Nowadays, it seems they run the show, and that ain't right. The racers, builders, designers, etc should run the show, not GM, Ford, Chrysler, or Toyota.

Good thing for racing, no more factory money in it 'cept for Ford, who should stop IMHO.

That's my .02 on the matter.

John, That is FUNNY!

Yeah, back to the original concept here, I support whole heartedly!

Just to toss a couple things in here I picked up both here and on the PB thread on this whole matter, the Moo now carries 4 extinguishers! Don't care what, who or how the fire started, gonna be able to stop it!

Back to your regular scheduled programming.......

Never thought about that part Ralph! But how good does Tony Stewart feel right now about leaving Joe Gibbs over the Toyota deal because he was dead on set to run Chebbies?

Good food for thought in all racing circles

It'll be fun running with you guys, my boat is no were near 600HP Ray :banghead:  Do you plan on racing that weekend?

Lol no, I'm too old and tired to try racing anyone. Just wanted to build a fast boat, which I did, and now Terry has me building a faster one, lol. (Although this Compjet thing has my interest).

If we get into some friendly drags next weekend, well, i ain't gonna say no either! This is all about fun, and what I wanted my kids exposed to. My kids talk about the experiences on the boats all the time (Driving their mother nuts right now, she just texted me a couple hours ago to see if I could send a boat up there to shut them up, lol!)

They know nothing of the blue one burning and sinking, and that's gonna be hard on my son. 'tis why Terry and I are doing the V-drive thing! The kids had enough, hopefully, we can have it done when they come back July 29th. Should make him VERY happy!

Ray

Edit: Should also mention that since scaring my son half to death at Mead with the Moo, (Her first launch) he's been pretty laid back about how fast I go and doesn"t seem to mind the speed so much. He warned me to not hot rod the blue meaney too much (It was getting the Moo's old Performer RPM and a new marine 850 i bought), or he'd not be happy, lol. I guess that's not a problem now...............

Yeah, I heard. I'm not even in the same area code as that guy from what I've seen. Just needed to be able to toss even a little one since I saw how much fun it was on the (RIP) Biesemeyer.

It should be ok, it'd toss a little one on it's own at max speed if you feathered the throttle just right.

It'll be fun running with you guys! Some of them have already seen this thing run, just not with the current configuration. A work in progress, hopefully we can get the thing tuned properly this week. Been running it relentlessly on it's initial settings, which are obviously close!

We, and I use the term loosely, reserve the right to judge anything and everything posted on here. lol

With the possible (probable) exception of Omar, everything has gotten rave reviews, so I wouldn't worry about that part of it.

So post the G/F pics, pleeeeze?

Does anyone else get Omar's texts? Oh My lord!!! lol
