I gotta tell you Andy, That roost pic is now the background on my phone since you sent it to me! My blue one isn't even close, (Jeremy can testify), I'm hoping the new Diverter for the Moo can do better than that!

It impressed everyone at work as well, lol.

Double check the firing order on the cap  ;D I think that's where the problem is.

We used to have a similar thing happen with U-Hual trucks (460) during a Preventative maintenance when some pinhead changed out a cap and rotor sometimes, and I can't remember exactly which they would reverse. PM'd a buddy who has my old job there, if he texts me back I can tell you which ones.
HMmmm, I would have bet money the 460 was a neutral flywheel delio (I don't do Fords).

Was the old one weighted?

GT

460's are, for the most part, internally balanced, and the flexplates will only go on one way (Hole spacings force this)

Edit: Sorry about the pin head comment, wasn't directed at you. The guys who used to do this routinely did this 5 times a day every day and even the mechanical bays would miss it and it would end up in one of my QC bays to diagnose and fix it. You don't do this anywhere nearly as often and is an easy thing to do. Sorry if that came off the wrong way, I'm tired, lol

I've not played much with the MSD unit, Mine are Mallory (Including the new one I just bought for "Blue My Wad"), and it has a dedicated tach line that's supposed to work with any electrical tach. (Does not hook up to the negative coil terminal)

Just thinking out loud.

Just set it at 6k Andy and be done with it. You're cam's broke in, you're not seating rings or anything, and then see what she'll do!

(Had to revamp my mounting and wiring on mine after a near death experience for it, and reset it to 6k while I was at it, Mallory unit so just a couple dip switches, we'll see how she does Thursday, but really saw no speed increase riding it at 5k from the readings I got at 4200).

I think my rings should be well seated by now.

Nice, NorCal boat...burn your ass off down here

;D True, my buddies, son and brother bitch and moan when I make them walk the deck on the Moo to beach or dock it, and they have to avoid the black spots. I think it's funny as they try to hopscotch across it and I turn the wheel a bit and blip the throttle, lol
Managed to dump them all at least once.

I was kidding Brad, my driving skills have improved exponentially recently. (Which means I'm only moderately dangerous now).

Wouldn't an MSD 6AL unit also work with his tach and Dizzy? I'm thinking it would, and might solve more problems than that.

Fuk that! GM shoulda coulda woulda, but DIDN"T! Let them go belly up, then all the very overpaid and very underworked union labor force might actually find out what it is to find, do, and keep a real job.

Sorry for the rant, grew up near a GM plant.

I chink the Hummer's gonna have a much lower status in the Soccer Mom circles from now on though!  >:D

« on: June 02, 2009, 11:02:37 AM »
Check your ignition timing as well. Might have a little effect on this, but the 460 likes between 10 and 13 degrees in my experience. (can be kinda hard to do this, as most marine engines have dampners from different years, etc.)

Best , and easiest, way to find true TDC on a 460, rotate the engine backwards (Tighteneing the crank bolt) until #1 is coming up on compression stroke, when at TDC, mark the dampner with a silver sharpie. rotate over again but watch #6 and when it starts to go down, mark it again. that should be 10 degrees BTC.

Also a good way to find out if your dampner/timing indicator are even remotely close.

I have to agree with Elwood on this. All you guys running Chebbies need to know we ALL now own part of your engine, lol. (My lil Grand Prix is subject to this as well, lol).

Did anyone hear about Jenna Jamison and Ron Jeremy politicing for a bailout of the porn industry? We were all talking about it at work yesterday. Talk about getting fukked!

That's true, we don't have anyone on here that I know of with a line on covers. (Good ones). Could use a couple myself as the Moo looses her place in the 'rage for the Submarine project.
