That's just what I was told I'll look up the casting numbers haha

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Casting # looks like 376450. If that's right, they are 1975/76 heads for the little 262 and 305 with the small 1.72/1.50 valve combo.

Make great door stops, or PWC anchors.

Definitely not 1966 original equipment.

There are current flame arrestors out there that currently flow in excess of 1000cfm.

FYI

And I agree that the two carburetors are likely not going to have too different of performance attributes.

Unless the 850 is dialed and the 750 is not.

Perhaps a better question that what rpm does it run now is where is the manifold vacuum at wide open throttle,  that will actually be a great indicator of where to go from here.

JMO.

GT

Yea, and those nice K&Ns are coast guard approved flame arrestors and they filter the air.  ;)

That's what I was getting at, if both are dialed in, probably wont be a difference.

Vacuum would be the best indicator.  Would like to see vacuum readings with and without the flame arrestor too. But if this thing is turning 4600 RPM at WOT, it sure doesn't "need" an 850.

Gt's short answer is right, yes it will work.

But the longer answer is you probably wont see any difference between the two.  What RPM is the engine turning flat out wide open throttle. They recommend an 850 because the cam has an RPM range and it would need that carb to reach the top of its RPM range. I doubt your at that RPM or ever going to get there. Also I assume this is a closed engine compartment being a 20' cruiser. So sitting on top of your carb is probably a tiny little flame arrestor that couldn't flow an honest 750cfm if you funneled a hurricane through it. If the flame arrestor can only flow 600 CFM either carb will only flow 600 CFM.

IMO, unless you turning some fairly high RPM for a jet cruiser (over 6000 RPM), any increase you might see with an 850 and all the tuning work GT is talking about, you would also see the same results with the same tuning work to the 750 you already have.  Going bigger with the carb will only help if the carb has become the limiting factor at WOT.

He stated under a vacuum. I said "nope".

Don't you have some parts to peddle? No puke tanks?

GT

Actually a guy just picked up $250 worth of hydro parts from the thread on PB.  :P  And some of that stuff is going to long Beach too.

Sorry, no puke tanks.  But for you I'll JB weld some garden hose to a Big Gulp cup and paint it all silver.   >:D

I run the braided dipstick, I notice mine working its way out this past weekend, and I run a pcv on one cover to the intake and a breather on the other, I think it's just the heat and vibration working it out as well. I think I'm gonna try a different oring in it, if that doesn't help maybe I'll check out that lokar deal.

I slid a 1 1/2" long section of vacuum hose over the base on mine, left it sticking up about 1/4" so the handle pushes down into it (if that makes sense). It adds enough tension to keep it from vibrating out. Might try it if the new O ring doesn't help.

Thanks for all the input I'm going to make some changes and see what happens clearing the information I was given was not correct. I knew that it was never helping crankcase pressure but I didn't know it was effecting the breathing of it. I also think I have valve cover issues they barley clear my stud girdles maybe need to get some different ones to allow more volume in the heads? Now can I put the catch can on one side or should both valve covers connect to the catch can?

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Once you get the tank, both valve covers go directly to the tank (large free flowing hoses). Then the tank needs a good breather or breathers on it.  And run the hoses so they the don't sag in the middle.  They need to drain either back into the valve covers or the tank. If you have a big saggy section in the middle the hose will fill with oil eventually and the system wont breath right.

How many in the box ???

4 of them in the box Jim.  $10 each so $40 for the whole box picked up at the Long Beach races.

Bet you a billion dollars the crankcase is not in a vacuum running balls out.

GT

Another thing.

Where is the vacuum coming from? The engine makes virtually zero at wide open throttle.

It's not gobs down a freeway,  it's climbing Pikes Peak at wide open throttle.

GT

If you go with a puke tank, get rid of the PCV's. You're mixing automotive technology with a jet and the result isn't good. Puke tank with hoses from both v/covers, breather on the tank and NO PCV's. PCV's only evacuate at idle and off-idle (until intake pressure drops). Don't know how much you idle, but by going with 1 open breather you create air circulation from atmosphere to the intake at idle and allow the crankcase to vent to atmosphere when vacuum drops and the crankcase builds pressure.

With the hoses zip tied to the rail kit, there is no vacuum anytime. He never said the PCVs are going to the intake manifold.

Thanks I'll do that when I get the tank. For now I'll ditch one pcv breather and get a normal breather and a lockable dipstick from Lokar

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Are the PCV hoses going to the intake manifold ? If your just running the hoses down to the rail kit, and not to the intake, ditch both of the PCVs and get two normal breathers on the valve covers (no hoses anywhere).

Like roost said, PCV needs vacuum from the intake to work, one PCV hooked to the intake and one open breather on the other valve cover.

And again like roost said, once you get the puke tank, just straight hoses to the tank and a breather on the tank.

Butt all that aside, I have one of those universal braided dip sticks on my car too. And it doesn't stay in place very well once things get hot either.  So your right, its probably bouncing out mainly from heat and vibration.

OK I have to ask, why would someone run two breathers, both with PCVs, then run both hoses from the PCVs out through the bottom of the transom ?  ???

You could come to the races.  ;D Its always a fun day.  Or I could give you call when I'm on way home and meet up anywhere between Long Beach and Fresno. I don't know SoCal all that well, I'm lucky I can find Long Beach. Maybe someone on here is going to the races from your area and can grab one for you, let me know.   ::)

I could always buy one!  It's the handle and diverter right?

Sent from somewhere in Cali

Its not that easy to put a Berk nozzle adapter on a WJ, and have it work right. You have to create an adapter, and do lots of machining to the WJ bowl to get rid of its built in nozzle and open it up to the Berk size. If you ever take the final nozzle off your WJ, you will see what I'm talking about. The WJ bowl has a built in nozzle of sorts sticking out of the back of it, all that would have to go away.  Besides, the diverter is already spoken for and has a back up buyer.

I'll take the logs, sbc cast mounts and the straight transom adaptor.

I can either meet in Bakersfield or Sylmar.

Let me know,
Thanks

Will the diverter work with a wj?

Only if it had a Berk nozzle adapter on it. So, no.

Oh, that one.  You should tell him to get some pics showing the "new stringers and transom".  Because whats in those pics looks scary.

BTW, the motor mounts are sitting in that box on the boats floor, right under the flywheel cover.

Yes, for the pump (Jacuzzi WJ). They hold the front seal and holds the bearing in place. Replaces that ugly stock one with the 4 "ears" on it.  These covers get ruined sometimes when the front bearing fails or gets to hot. It replaces part #14 on this diagram. http://www.cpperformance.com/images/12WJ-parts-drawing-LG.jpg

My buddy machined these about 10 yrs ago for a "pump shop" and then they never paid for them.  Check the price on the stock ones, buy the whole box for $40, keep one, sell the rest and make some money.  ;) Just want them out of my spare bedroom, I've never even owned a WJ pump.

 It replaces this,  http://www.cpperformance.com/p-729-bearing-cap.aspx

While cleaning things out I found a box of 4 billet aluminum front bearing caps for the WJ pumps. I'm heading from Fresno down to Long Beach (sprint boat races) this weekend (August 6th). If anyone wants/needs one or the whole box, make me an offer and we can meet up to save shipping.
