I just got it back from a local flatbottom shop in Fresno. A new cable, sheaths, and they installed everything. Just over 300 bucks but Im pretty happy with it. Couldnt get a full system for less that that and I already had the holes in the stringers and everything for the Calgo.. Guess its time to install it back in the boat and she how she works!

Project Boats For Sale / Re: TWO JET BOATS for $2500

Yellows a Sleekcraft. Sounds like a pretty good deal. One has a running 455 and the other spun a main bearing. The spun bearing has a good pump and the running boat lost a rear main on the pump he said. It sounds like a motor swap and youd have one running ready for the water boat. Has the pinks for everything and sounds legit. Berkley pumps. Hopefully Ill have time to run down there tomorrow to check em out.

Cool! Thanks for the info guys. Atleast now I have a starting point. Anyone wanna sell a pair of 600s? Might work a trade with my 2 850s! Oh.. and trying not to start an argument here.. but I see most 600s are vac secondaries and from what I read thats something to avoid on boats. Any truth behind that?

55
Thanks for the responces guys. Ill try and get a quote tomorrow. If its too much Ill just hold off and run my MSD stuff. I was hoping to run the mag because of my big ass mag tach I have.. I have time though, dont even have a motor together.

56
So I just took the cap off my mag to polish the housing and found a broken piece inside. I figure since these damn things are so expensive there has to be a place to rebuild em.. Anyone have any good experience with a certain shop? Id like to stay local in the Fresno area but I know most of you are down south so I can ship it to them if they're a good shop. Thanks! Ill post a few pictures so you can see what Im talking about.

Figured I was going to start a shit storm.. Thats why I tried to stay pretty general.  ;) Thanks for the address. This setup is actually going on a 396 in my V-Drive. Ill be throwing a 454 together soon for the jet though and could use the same info.

How do you calculate what sizes carbs will function best with your displacement? Is there an actual scientific way to figure it out? Im trying to decide what size carbs to run with my tunnel ram on a mostly stock 396 or 454.. Iv heard everything from 450s to 600s and even tuned down 850s..

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Scoop Trays
« on: March 14, 2011, 07:29:40 PM »
I was wondering how everyone got these different scoop trays for the big fiberglass scoops? Im trying to find a scoop right now but I might be running a single carb for awhile and most of them have duals or none at all.. So where can I find trays or do I have to make em? Thanks!

Id vote '72 on that one.. Also my favorite truck.  Do you guys with 2wds have a hard time launching and picking up the boats on steep ramps?

Will do! I found on the bottom of RexMarines price list the it says to send the assembly to G.S.M for a rebuild.. I cant find any information on them or even a phone number. Theres a flatbottom shop near me.. Is this something I can trust them with or just send it to GSM?

Well the makes me feel a little better now.. Usually I get screwed on these type of deal and have to spend thousands to replace something shitty.. I figured this was going to be a send to a shop kinda deal. Theres a guy local up here thats selling a Calgo setup for 200 bucks with good cables. What would it cost to repair this one?

Ok.. Got it all apart today. Was alot more of a pita then I thought itd be. Here are a few pictures after I got everything apart.. This really makes me want to go a different route. So apparently its just one really long cable? What are my options here?

Im not all that concerned about fuel usage as much as tunning. I just hear horror storys about T/Rs but Im pretty much set on the looks of running one. Im hoping to be able to use this setup instead of re-buying carbs. These carbs also need rebuilt.. Might be a pain to order a rebuild kit without the CFM..  :o

Ill try to take some pictures.. Pulling the cables was on my to-do list but I got side tracked with all the snow and messy garage this weekend. Im pretty sure mines all in great condition except for the cables themselves. Feels like they rusted solid. Hopfully I can get around to pulling them soon.

Hows 7 3/4 inches to the top sound? Thats from the deepest part where it looks like the pickup would sit.

Does just under 1 3/4 sound right? I get like 1 and 11/16s with my tape. Number on the top of the venturis is 6R 3745 B if that means anything.

Im hoping their alot smaller than 850s so I can bolt em up to a stock bore 454 or 396. If not Ill just have to buy new ones and keep these around for a big motor build next winter.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Holley carb numbers
« on: February 26, 2011, 02:35:45 PM »
So I bought a tunnel ram last season with a motor that I later found out was trash.. Im trying to figure out if I can use the t/r with my new setup but dont know the CFMs on the Holleys and cant seem to find a site with numbers. He said they were 2 850s but that seems pretty excessive for a 468 that was pretty mellow. Not to mention the guy was one hell of a liar I later found out.  Problem is... the list number was cut off. Is there any other way to tell what they are? I heard by measureing the base plate but I cant find what measurements mean what carb.. Thanks!

Hey, Im building a motor finally and need to know where to find an oil pan pickup tube? Im having no luck. Its a GIL and Im not sure the quart amount. I was hoping to find a website that would show me what to measure and where I can order the damn pickup! Thanks.
