Projects / 73 Kona build, moved from Hulls

http://www.socaljetboats.com/hulls/73-kona-rebuild/

Well I got a little more done, Removed the rest of the jet pump, rub rail and a good part of the sanding on the deck. After removing the through transum exhaust tips I decided I might as well replace the wood in the transum  there a few rotted areas  :banghead:. I have to get the intake out first, man what a pain that is  :banghead:

Jet Pumps / Re: WJ vs YJ

Thanks to all for the insight. I guess I will get with Tom to figure out what parts I will need to put the WJ back together. Anyone need a YJ  ;D

Jet Pumps / WJ vs YJ
« on: November 17, 2010, 09:16:20 AM »
Ok, I have a 74 Kona Im rebuilding that came with a WJ, in pieces I might add and looks as if some parts are missing but not surejust what yet, just havn't had the time to see what is missing. So long story short I have a complete YJ in good condition and was concidering for now to install th YJ until I could afford to rebuild the WJ. My question is would it be a easy swap out or would I have to do some glass work on the bottom around the intake  ???

BTW I am putting in a SBC that has been beefed up.

picked up a set off small block chevy headers to run in a certain boat, but thats gone as is my job...
So they are for sale...
been sitting uncovered in ramona,ca so they are rusty...
looks like they were nice untill then.
no bad spots or dents as I can see..
but they are rusted where the water lines connect.
I was going to have them blasted then coated...
these are long so you can cut them as needed...

$250.00 plus shipping...

Are you running tall valve covers?

I have some Hallcraft Marine logs and may be able to scare up some risers but they will not fit taller than stock valve covers because they are up shots....I was going to use then on the Southwind, but they would not fit the motor we had....They are a solid 8 out of 10 as far as condition, but I don't know if I have riser yet (I will go scrounge if they will fit your stuff  ;) )..

I will make you a deal you can't refuse. 8)

I also have some headers, but I am in to them too far and need to get a bunch of money for them if I were to sell.. :-\
I currently have tall valve covers but plan to replace them. Im not sure if stock valve covers will clear  :-\

I lived in cocoa bch for a while before moving to san diego...Where do you boat? Intercoastal or is there a freshwater spot....When I lived there it seemed alot of people would boat near the b-line/cape canaveral area. Looks like you gots some work to do....
Hey Mom...lol with other boats I had I/O I boated the intercoastal and the area your talking about ( ski island) also the st johns river which is fresh but since this is my first jet im undecided about boating in the intercoasal seeing how its brackish water and im a little concearned about what the salt would do corrosion wise  :-\

Hulls / 73 Kona rebuild

I finally started gutting the Kona ! After removing the carpet and plywood where the front seats was I noticed what I would call gussets  :-\ there is three on each side coming off the stringers. The one in the middle looks as if it has a 1 x on each side and then filled with some kind of epoxy. My question is are these original to the boat or been added. Basicly not sure what to do with these, thought of cutting them out and glassing in new one's  :-\ Maybe Frankloc will chime in since he just rebuilt his Kona.
