The Spectra, well, nothing hits the water that easy that doesn't need a lot of shakedown testing. Shake it off, fix it, and try again. We all have been there with both major shit and with minor "oh yeah" kinda dumb shit.

interested in what the problem could be.  i had like a 63/71 set of jets in my 650 carb and it ran awesome at WOT still... but it sputtered in between and my plugs looked lean.  i changed to 75/80 and now it runs awesome and the plugs have a nice little brown around around the insulators like they should.... is it a vac secondary carb?? do you even feel the secondaries kick in at all?  mine makes a very audible "weeeee" sound...

Your "weeeeeeeee" sound is likely a vacuum leak in the secondary diaphragm brother............shouldn't hear anything other than a little more "whoosh" sounds than normal if the scoop is facing forward. Otherwise, probably wouldn't even hear that.

didnt jason post that a new hull is under $10k?  i dont see where the other $30k comes from.  you could rig a boat for half that.

Last I got from Jason was the bare hull only was $25k, and that might be a speshul lowball price in and of itself. So $40k turnkey and blown is a HUGE deal!

No, I think the carb should come off and be carefully gone through and rebuilt, myself. But I'm not there looking at it either to know for sure that's the issue. But I HAVE seen plugs look like that, that weren't really lean, it was all in timing. My own boat was one. But you're only getting 3800 RPM (Provided the tach is RIGHT), and as lean as the plugs look to me, which would indicate to ME, anyway, the secondaries on your 4150 aren't even in the same playground when the rest of the boat has already picked teams and started the game.  Could be something else, but that's where I'd look first.

pulled the spark plugs out and cleaned them up, they were covered in fluid, it fired right up, then i got a timing light to it and its happy at 35* btdc total advance, idle's at 1k rpm and 20* btdc

What motor is this? Take your timing light with you and check it/adjust it with it idling on the trailer in the water. Hopefuly changes things, but 20* sounds like an AWFUL lot initial timing to me no matter what engine.....(Well, if it's a Kawasaki that might be different, dunno about them..... )  But it would seem hard to start. The 35* part I can buy.

Man no clue what that went to, But I'm sure someone, somewhere is cringing in disgust it was cut up like that. Much as I am! 

My Crower measures damn near 5" from inside one throttle bore to the other side of the other throttle bore at the back........



and  from front to back should actually fit with some machining and have some extra room.



Unless your friend has some better ideas, I don't see it fitting very well at all short of machining most of the bottom of it off and welding what I have welded to a plate (Cutting the plate off) to it. Shame, as it really looks a LOT like a Crower Hercules scoop, just a lot smaller and without the ribs on the top.

Lemme tear the scoop plate off and get you some more pics with a tape on 'em to maybe see if he can work on this.

2 focked up original scoops from 2 different things to make at least 1 old school looking piece! Thing is, the piece I have is Magnesium, and I see now is only JBWelded to the plate so a couple smacks with a hammer and it's off.

Looking for  a set of BBC logs and snails. Will consider wet headers. Also still need a BBC ski tow. Still trying hard to get Bebo on the water.

I just sent a really nice set to Canada. I got a set of decent OT pipes though if you can come up with decent logs, Frank.

How cheap is cheap?

Well, I pay $97 and change...........LONG story as to why, but it's a combination of a dealer plan and because they still think I work for Home Depot.....lol. But they've taken care of me, after about 50 some phone calls back and forth almost 3 years ago, and a Vice President finally getting involved, and I take care of them as much as possible by keeping their service. And they've replaced my Blackberry far more often than they should have. One is at the bottom of Saguaro Lake. 

I'm not a total idiot, I just play one on SCJB more often than I should......

And I agree, My mom just got text messaging since pops died (He was a cheap 'ol fart like me and wouldn't pay for the extras) after having cell phones for 15 years because that's the most sure fire way to get a quicker response from my brother and I or her grandkids. Takes her anywhere from an hour to 2 days to respond to a text...........but she's figuring it out. If I even mention doing e-mails, GPS, Internet and all that, that stress might just finish the 'ol broad off........so I don't.
