believe it or not the olds has 8 seasons on it turning 5000 with just a blue print and balance job.the carbs are edelbrock 750s the intake is a 064 edelbrock dual quad with 2 4 in spacers 4 hole.exhaust is over the transom bassets. spark plugs look good now like i said i had to put a hotter plug in.

the heads are stock ka and the cam is a 496 280 duration. pistons 60 over forged trws.miladon high volume oil pump with a 6 quart oil pan.with 1 carb 750 it turned 5000, with the 2 750s it turns 4800. went 2 stages leaner on both carbs and had to put in 1 stage hotter plugs in..in think its to much for my basic stock set up. but it sure looks good with 2 carbs sitting there.

Here my question, is 2 750 carbs to big for a 10-1 compression 468 ci olds. or will 2 500 carbs work better?

20/50 gastrol . been running that oil for 20 years in my boats chevys and oldmobile motors summer time oil.
I just had my 455 rebuilt. It is .040 Mostly stock other then that. I have run 40w in the past, and was curious what everyone thought about what brand and weight to run.

Sounds like needle and seat might be plugged in one of the carbs allowing fuel to flood engine.

we used spuce wood like they used in the spuce goose. and used sea going putty to set it in. then glassed over the top..

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / LOW OIL PRESSURE
« on: September 04, 2009, 06:29:11 AM »
heres the story stock 454 chevy. went on the lake yesterday had 60 psi on the oil pressure gauge at 3000 rpm. took it to 4300 rpm and droped to 20 psi were it wont come back up.what do you guys think MAIN bearings.now theres no oil leaks externally.and the motor isnt knocking yet. were going tocheck the oil gauge today, to make sure its not a false reading..oh by the way the motor is 30 years old so i cant say he didnt get his moneys worth..

Well come to find out that a big piece of silacon got stuck in the oil pump pick up screen. at idle for 25 mins under the london bridge caused one of the cam bearings to lock up. thats what happens when you use silacon instead of a gasket on the intake manifold!!

Jet Pumps / Y.j. pump
« on: September 22, 2008, 06:08:57 PM »
Is the energizer kit worth buying for the Y.J. pump? i read you can put diffrent impellers wedges, shoes and diverters after the kit is installed. Or is it better to just reglass the bottom for a berkly style pump?
