Cough as in a pop through the carb?
Could be thrash in the carb and time for a rebuild on it or or or your cam is going flat? Not the best mechanic here so maybe some with more expertise can pick up here.  :banghead: :banghead:

Thanks, well my RPM/temp/oil gauges don't work  :banghead: the speedometer and fuel are the only ones that work  :screwy: so there's another issue I need to work on, getting my gauges to work :-\. It is equipped with MSD ignition, and Wilkes told me my alternator belt is too big therefore will slip at high RPM which does not create enough current that the MSD requires, so that was one of the "minor fixes" (right size alternator belt, secure battery better than it is, check distributor cap for corrosion).  As far as the pump he said my wear ring may be worn out so since that would be replaced that I should just do a rebuild(quoted at roughly$750-$1000 parts and labor).
The two gauges you really do not need work that bites. You really need the Tach/temp/and oil pressue to work. They are your motor's life line. I would fix them asap and then take it for a spin and see what the motor is doing.
Since the tach is not working what does the motor sound like at 25/30?? lots of rpm or not so much? The pump is an issue possibilty (most likely) it is a jet boat and often over looked by alot of people. Remember the power is in the pump

Trailers / Re: Floater Bar vs Winch
« on: July 23, 2009, 09:10:29 AM »
I like the bar myself and 95% launch and load solo. I have no issues every now and then i have to start it to move it forward an inch or so but no big deal.

Nice looking sled
What RPM are you turing when it starts to cough? I do not see how needing you pump rebuilt would make the motor cough it could limit your speed but not that bad unless it was a total POS. When the pump is wore out the motor will make a lot of noise i.e rpm's will go up but you will not be moving to fast from the slippage in the pump? A little more info is needed to help steer you in the right direction.

Other than making sure everything is set right bolts torqued to the proper specs fuel oil etc
I would prime the oil system real good then hit the key and listen to it roar...

Like Ray said loose that wing nut first and for most.

Like Brad said your ride plate looks like it is going way the wrong way. It looks like you are 4-5 degress the wrong way.
I would start at +3 and go up from there. I have a TX-19 and it likes +4

With the ride plate down like it is when you let off the gas it is pushing the bow down and lifting the transom up and therfore around she goes and all of this was said before in this thread just stressing the point.

V-Drives / Re: Steering onto trailer
« on: July 22, 2009, 01:39:08 PM »
I have a 76 Sleekcraft 23 ft day cruiser. When I drive up to my trailer after manuevering the stering wheel back and forth I can't drive the boat onto the trailer. I have to jump in the water and manually pull it up or winch it the last few inches  because it is hard to tell if my wheel / jet is cranked over to the left or right . Yesterday I was driving my boat off the trailer to the left. PITA ! Is there a device that can tell if the jet is straight forward ?
Any pics of your boat? I would like to know what it looks like, so if i saw it on the water so i can go park mine ;D ;D
J/K more seat time and you will know where she is. I have my wheel mounted so that when it is straight i know it by the feel of the wheel  O0

Check your steering cable first and by no means use a rudder. I think this will only make things worse. My buddy has an invader and it is a handful to drive we put a rudder on it for a short time and off it came as his boat was all over the place. Are you running a PD Droop etc?
