ok I don't want to sound like a dump shht but I built this bad ass ford with the help of socaljet (you guys) but!!! now I cant control this focken boat do you have to use a rudder on a 12je 17 foot boat 460 every time I let up and then hit the gas I go flying 360's fock every where is that from no rudder or just don't know how to drive this boat yet any pointers would be great thanks ken

whaaat?

go into more detail as far as what youre doing before this boat starts doing 360's

are you coming off the gas, cranking the wheel then mashing the gas again?

i just dont see how coming off the gas and getting back on it causes you to spin out.

a rudder wont fix your problem.....you have something crazy going on.

Sounds to me like you have a frayed steering cable...with the wheel held still, see if you can move the nozzle to and fro....

I have seen this very thing before and the outer casing of the steering cable was el Junko...

X2, Either cable, like Glenn said, possibly even a missing pin in the nozzle? Reverse bucket cable? <-----hey, might be something there! check and see if the forard/reverse is werkin right! Mine got real squirrely when the bolt fell out holding the cable to the reverse bucket!

Sounds outrageous to me. I'm running pretty much the same setup on an 18' with nothing like THAT going on! No rudder no more either (Really notice no difference, but lost the rudder in the PD install).

I'm wondering if this hull is one of the many short hulls that have the deep entry bow. Combine the exaggerated "bow steer" issue at higher speed with the JE's lack of fins on the intake and possible lack of a rudder and you can get some very negative behavior.

Let's see pics of the boat, preferably side shot showing the entire bow.

ok when I get off the gas is bad start moving all over the place.. When I hit the gas boy let me tell it is all over........... after I clean me seat I think what the fock just happened

Check your steering cable first and by no means use a rudder. I think this will only make things worse. My buddy has an invader and it is a handful to drive we put a rudder on it for a short time and off it came as his boat was all over the place. Are you running a PD Droop etc?

Uploading pics I just took of mine (With a PD on it, but simlilar). Something looks amiss to me with that linkage that I wanted to compare your picture with to mine. So ignore my reverse cable.

Your pic is a bit fuzzy, but it still concerns me a little. (Still searching for before PD install pcs with no luck, lol).

What concerns me is that the bolt in the slot securing the steering cable is at the very front of that adjustment slot. Is that bolt loose or possibly a shoulder bolt floating around in that slot? should be a grade 5 ot 8 bolt tightened TIGHT!

We'll see if I can see anything else jumping out at me.

Edit: and also looking at it closely, it looks like the bottom pivot pin to the nozzle is sticking down and resting on top of the "reverse ductwork" for lack of a better term. If that has fallen far enough out to disengage with the nozzle, BIG trouble! Should be an allen screw holding it in place, and loctited there.

Oh, and lose the focking wingnut on the bottom of the pivot bolt! That's ASKING for trouble on the water! Get a good stainless Nylock nut on there! It ain't an air cleaner!

what degree is your ride plate set at?

put a gravity degree/angle finder on the keel of your boat (bottom line @ the intake) and level out the boat, then put the angle finder on the ride plate.

it should be no less then +3 degrees. i cant tell from the pics, but it looks like its down a lot. that could be your problem.

the ride plate being down so far would be forcing the nose of the boat down when you let off....causing the bow to 'hunt' through any waves or current like it has a mind of its own....and if its extreme enough, it will pitch/spin the boat as you described.

use one of these to find your angle...they are pretty cheap at home depot or harbor frieght.

Like Ray said loose that wing nut first and for most.

Like Brad said your ride plate looks like it is going way the wrong way. It looks like you are 4-5 degress the wrong way.
I would start at +3 and go up from there. I have a TX-19 and it likes +4

With the ride plate down like it is when you let off the gas it is pushing the bow down and lifting the transom up and therfore around she goes and all of this was said before in this thread just stressing the point.

thank you guys I had a fast 5 min ride........... it was great then it got me ..................about a month ago I had wiring problems did the cheap 200 fix then it just got me.......... fock fock I didn't know you had to have money every focking time you take the boat out and gas
