When I had it in the Nordic, it was even orange to match--too bad my #2 son turned it blue when he put it in his Sanger cruiser.

OK, I've decided that I'm tired of storing this EFI motor. New Price $2,000. I had this in that 20' Orange Nordic that Ralph now has, and it ran like a 18' sk hull--amazing throttle response, quick acceleration, probably 65+ mph, and easy on fuel (it's like paying $3.50 per gallon for gas again). Also, it adjusts itself for low altitude or 6000' and never any black smoke on the transom. Price includes engine stand.

I had a 21' Fresno for 6 or 7 years and loved it. I'm looking to buy another one this spring. Fresno Boats built a solid, quality hull, and I always thought the cruiser was especially good looking--rounded rather than the typical angular deck. I knew a couple of guys that owned the 18' jets and were very satisfied with their performance.

I think that the other thing was that in the 50s and 60s, a v-drive was the only to handle big horsepower--outboards were limited to about 100-135HP, and I/Os could handle a 165HP straight six, and most of these boats would top out at 40-50 mph. When the jets came along, it was a new way to power a low profile boat with 300-400+ HP, and they could hit 60+ mph. Even in 1977, I remember a friend trying to run a I/O with a 400HP SBC, and he kept blowing the stern drives. I think that this was about the time when they started beefing up the stern drives to handle the higher HP, and since they were more fuel efficient than the jets, the I/O became the "package of choice" for new boats manufacturers.

Years ago--like about 20--I restored a '75 Rebel with a fairly stock 454 and a Berkeley JC. Before GPS, but I'd estimate top MPH to be in the low 60s. I also would not put in a gear drive, it'll still sound good.

I'm with you Glen--been following the Giants since 1960--that's 50 years. I remember listening to Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons on the local radio station, and have done my share of suffering through the years. It is really great to finally see them on top--with pitching like they have, it could be the beginning of a good run.

Looks like a great time and the pics bring back good memories of our family houseboat vacations at Shasta. Our kids always talk about all the fun and crazy stories, and I remember running 200+ gallons through that orange Nordic one week--the price you pay for having 4 almost adult kids (age 15-22) and all their friends along, but it was, as the commercial says, "priceless". I'm thinking that maybe it's time to try for another Shasta trip next year. It'd be kind of fun to hook up with some of the SCJB gang up there. I know the "Laid Back Boater" group also does a week, or so in June of each year, camping at Antlers--as many as 12-15 families and boats.

I would sure like to find someone to buy this classic Sanger.

Yea, I know that this is a jet boat forum, but where better to find someone who wants to "graduate" into a "real" hot boat. Truthfully, although I've enjoyed running this boat for the past 4 years, I'm moving back to a jet. It's just easier for an old guy like me to maintain, and to trust with multiple drivers. The gel is a cream color with original orange/bronze/copper/gold trim and really looks good on the water, although there are some dings and scars from 35 years of use. It has a basically stock 454, turbo400 trans, casale v-drive, adjustable plates, and bimini top. The V&M tandem trailer is solid, but could use paint/makeover. I just spent $2K+ on a new "old school" interior by John Johnson who did many of the original Sangers, Fresnos, Tarvas, Belmonts, etc, when he was at Lee Wells Upholstery here in Fresno. The boat runs into the high 60s with a rock solid ride and is ready to go--I had it out at Shaver Lake this weekend looking for 76 Nordic. I'm sure that someone is looking for this classic Sanger Cruiser. $12,000.

It has been a long time, but I think we just removed the exhaust logs in order to get to the freeze plugs on the 455 olds in a 21' Fresno cruiser. However, if you need to raise up the motor in order to get access, I would just take off the clamp where the bell housing attaches to the jet, undo the front mounts, and hoist the front of the motor just enough to do the job. I'd also try to keep the driveline on the jet spline because sometimes it is tough to slip it back on.
