I like the rpm air gap manifolds. Good compromise on torque and horsepower. Most jet boats aren't set up to benefit from a single plane and especially a tunnel ram. No reason to run a manifold for high rpm use on a motor that rarely sees over 5 grand.

I have some round ones. 8" round by maybe 3 or four feet. Only about 7 gallons each. I will sell them cheap.

Sounds good. Remember to do your idle adjustments after a few passes that way the motor is warm and running most efficient. Then you can make compromise adjustments later to help with cold starting.

You have come this far might as well rebuild it. Go buy a gallon of carb dip and the rebuilt kit from any auto parts store. Tear it all down, soak everything for a few hours, rinse it clean, blow dry, and reassemble. This will insure everything is clean and correct. It is a bit overwhelming the first time you do it but if you take your time and pay attention you won't have any problems.

I'm not the biggest fan of these carbs for performance applications but on a mild motor they actually work pretty good. Remove the filters as stated before. Turn the mixture screws in until they seat counting how many turns it takes. Then remove them and clean the tips with some scotch bright. You don't have to get crazy. Just get them clean and re install. A full rebuild of the carb is probably in order but you can try these things first.

Never used them personally but six or so years ago the shop I worked for used them a lot. Can't remember ever having a problem. Not much of a review but I guess it's something.

I believe mercury's latest spec is exhaust elbow 13" above the water line. That means the motor would have to suck water 13" up the pipe before it could run down into the motor. They inject water at the elbow and with their cams they don't worry about reversion. That being said you need to find some specs on your cams. They will determine your reversion risk.

I will be in this car and you can see the trailer in the background. Not that the trailer helps, there are only about 500 30ft weekend warriors there on any given weekend.

Hey Dustin, is Eric doing to have his Baja done by then?
He is planning on having it out there with just the front done. I am going to help him ghetto wire it for the week until he can finish the dash and get the other motor in it.

Found a guy on CL selling a set of the OT single pipes I think I'm going to try to get for now...  What are everybody's thoughts about hooking up the water lines??  Is it better to go thru the engine 1st then thru the logs or the logs 1st?  I'm getting mixed opinions and would like as much input as I can get.  I don't really like the idea of putting hot water thru the engine and then expect it to try to cool...  Everybody's 2ยข is welcomed

Pump then logs then tails. The logs will preheat the water a small amount to keep the motor running at a more consistent temperature. You will probably see 140 or so at idle and 100-120 at speed. Cold water will help prevent the logs from warping and cracking and the warmer water will help the motor run more efficient and your tune up will be more consistent.

Sorry to thread jack, but this step down removal that you speak of... How hard is it to do? I never really paid too much attention to it, but if I can remove it easily and make some more power. That's a win win.

Sent from my iPhone using SoCalJetBoats

Not hard. Remove exhaust cut reducer off change exhaust hose and put on larger exhaust tips. If your lucky you already have the larger hose and tips and the reduced exhaust log end is just stepping down inside the hose.

If you really want to ditch the logs find a set of Imco manifolds. Lightning headers make decent power but they eventually rust and leak. The outer tubes are only mild steel. Imco power flows are good to 600 hp and the power flow pluses are good to a 1000. You will pick up some power with these manifolds but honestly you probably won't notice much in the boat. If it was mine I would keep the logs and spend the extra money fuel and beer.

Is all the blue anodized?

-beerjet-

The pulleys and billet parts of the blower are anodized. The intake and blower case are powder coat. The motor was originally a mercury 525 with a whipple kit so most parts are mercury blue.
