I'm still a newbie on the forum, but thougt I would ask what drove other folks on this forum to jet boats?

For me, it was camping with my family back on the 70's at DL Bliss State Park at Lake Tahoe. At 10 or 12 years old hearing the boats roar was the deal.  Sitting on the beach and watching them was just very cool. (loved the rooster) I always wanted to be the guy with the fast boat in Tahoe..... Well, fast forward 30+ years and I have the boat, not all that fast, but the lake is like an ocean, large waves so you can't open it up unless you rise early and get the morning glass. I still lived the dream, ran the boat on Tahoe, kids loved the tubing, big smile on my face. Someday I want to run to Emerald Bay, just need additional fuel, not sure how the boys back in the 70's make it that far with small fuel tanks.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it......

Been on the board for over a year a love everyones posts. I just don't get the posts that say 'bump". Is that just a dist on someone or what gives. My question is why bother folks with "bump" unless you have something productive to say.

Thanks for all the repies, it's very apparent I have  lot to learn. Just checked my records for the shop, the motor only took 7 qts, so thanks for the detailed advice.

Can't wait for summer..

I'll be putting in all new gagues this winter so I won't be flying blind come summer. I'll check on the MSD option as well, don't want to blow her up.

I'm not considering any motor changes for now. At 45 mpr the wind is fast and everyone is holding on hard. Not sure what as MSD unit is, can anyone advise? I want to keep the boat as is today, don't want to blow her up just yet, economy says no new motor for now...

Brad, not sure about the engine modifications, previous owner had no idea. The oil comment makes me a little worried I'll need to look into that.

Not planning on too much hot dogging, my kids were holding on for dear life at 48 mpr... loved every minute of that.

Hi all --

New to the board and just picked up my first jet in late August. I've only been able to get her wet once, and at the time the Tach wasn't working so I couldn't tell or push my mps. I'm not the mechnical type so I'm not going to do much with the engine, so it is what it is.

My basic qustion is this. I have a 1977 19' Bayon, nunning a 455 olds, Berkeley jet. Not sure if the engine is stock or what but the mechanic that worked on my boat raced outlaws with the same motor, and his comment was the engine sounds very strong. His comment was not to push past 5K on the rps for long and 4500 would be fine.

What should I expect as far as speed goes? Sure wish it was summer and I could find out myself.

As info, my first time on the water I did hit 48 mpr on the GPS but again no clue on my tac at the time.

I've been checking out the site for months, wish we had that kind of support here in NorCal... Anyway, thought I would do my first post. I picked up my first and hopefully only boat late summer. It's a 19 foot 1975 Bayon with a 455 Olds, only took it out once so far and it was a blast. Anyone have experience with a Bayon?


Now if I could figure out how to post pics I would share my pain/pleasure.
