Hello SoCalJetBoat World...
I just joined this form but have been watching it for years. My back ground is a water skier and a 18' horizon boat owner from the early 1970s (so you can tell I'm a tired old guy who needs help). With that said here is my recent problems that I would like some opinions on. Went to Big River a couple of weeks ago and got my boat out of storage after more than two year of no use. Changed oil, new gas, battery and cleaned it up. Put it in water and tried to fire it up. Several bad internal metalic sounds as it turned over then starter stuck or should I say engine didn't want to turn over anymore. Back to camp site and pull valve covers. All intake valve push rods bent like heck. End of trip, pull heads (intake valves and ports full of black tar) head home. If valve job saves heads I'll go get boat and bring it home for some repairs. My questions are: Black tar may have gone down into piston rings, how to clean without removing pistons? Next, do you think hyd lifters might be wasted, how to tell? Hopefully timing didn't get mess up, like jump a tooth or so on the timing sproket. Hopefully cam didn't get mess up (push rods seem to be weak link which is a good thing). As you can tell I've been a bit negligent as in my younger days I ues to work, repair, clean and use that boat all the time. Now there are just to many things to do. Oh yes, by the way I have let some gas go bad which I'm sure has something to do with my troubles.
Cheers to all!
