It's a 77 pioneer jet boat. What are your thoughts on "fereria" (if that's how it is spelled) heavy duty valves for the head?

LoL, love the knowledge in these posts. I too just bought my first boat and found the 460 motor was shot when I got it home. Time for a rebuild, just dropped my engine off with Bostick. That guy knows his stuff and was bombing me with ideas and options. Seeing as this is my first jet boat and I have no clue about Ford motors, he is going to check the block and give me a few options to choose from to get what I want out of it.

And the temp on the heads is the same as the pan? Or the oil touching the bottom of the piston is the same temp as the oil in the filter? Average to me seems like a healthier way to use as a baseline. Just my 2 cents... I like your idea though and may try it on another build I'm working on. Good chat!

My opinion, do it right and weld a bung onto the pan...

Sure it may take time to do it right, but you want oil temp for a reason. So might as well do it right the first time!

Possible condensation or froth in the oil??? Did you run the motor for a bit and see if it did it again?

One trick I used on my Truck motor was to hook up clear plastic line to the hose end and run it to a VP fuel can for fuel collection. When I ran the fuel pump with 12 volts and opened the fuel solenoid for a spray I saw bubbles in the fuel while the fuel was traveling to the collection jug. Mind you I did have a loop in the line to assist with purging the air out as the fuel flowed through. Seeing the air bubbles meant the fuel pump was cavitating in the fuel tank. I dropped the tank, sure enough, the pump was moving the fuel out of the factory built in fuel reservoir that the pump sits inside when installed into the tank faster that the return line and small fill hole could allow fuel to fill it up and submerge the pump.

So I cut more fill holes into the reservoir and cut down the height of the reservoir. Since that mod, after checking, there have been no more bubbles are lean readings from the Wide-band O2 gauge. Hope that helps a bit...
