Yea i bought it at the beggining of the season, had a blast with it, broken flywheel though on Labor Day and no time(or a garage)to fix it, besides i wana step up to something bigger and newer. The guy who sold it to me sold it as a Sanger but such was not the case on the registration. It says 1977 Centurion.

1977, 19ft. Centurion jet boat with 1994 Hardin Marine 460 BB Ford. Pump is a Berkley JC-A with manual place diverter. The boat is an old CIRCLE BOAT racer which i hear is starting to become popular again. The hull is in good shape and still has the original gel-coat on it. However, somewhere along the line someone put automotive clear coat on it and the clear coat is flaking in some spots. It has a double axle trailer in OK shape, needs new side bunkers, not sure on the make of the trailer. Used all this season at El Cap and the river and ran like a champ, did 68.5mph(handheld GPS)on smooth water. Took it out on Labor Day and the fly-wheel broke, other then that it runs great, i just dont have the time or the space to work on it and i wana step up to something bigger. Below is a list of the stats:

hotrod, im pretty sure AQUAHOLIC is correct about it being an Ultra. I might be wrong but Ultra's have that distinctive curve at the rear of the boat. A buddy of mine has that same boat and that feature is a real cool eye catcher! A very cool custom look!

I was(and still am)having the same problem with my 460. I took it in to a shop and was told it was the t-valve that went bad. I had it replaced with a bassett t-valve and the oil changed. I took it out to the lake and no problem, the oil looked nice and clean when i got it home. However, the second time i took it out to the lake(2 weeks ago)the problem started again and this time there was alot of milk. TheChaz was out there with me and upon his inspection he thought it was the intake manifold gasket going bad. With a quick visual inspection you can almost see the gasket has gone to hell. Also, the intake manifold(Edelbrock Performer RPM)has stress cracks where the bolts are, it also has seen better days. So with that said i bought a new manifold(same one), gaskets, and the like. Im gonna install it here in about 30 minutes and then change the oil and see what happens.
Im also curious though if i might be getting to much water from the headers(Bassett twisty's). I was told to leave the water valve cracked open at 3/4 and leave it there and it should shut the water off at 1500rpm or so. I was told that Bassett t-valves are set up this way. Any opinions?

I have the same problem with my 460. At first it was the t-valve for my water injected headers, this was replaced with a Bassett T-valve and looked like it corrected the problem. I didnt have any water in the oil the next time i took it out. However, i took it out last Friday and noticed that the water was back in the oil, AND IT WAS BAD THIS TIME! Luckily, TheChaz was out there with me and was able to see that i just needed to completley replace the intake gaskets. Im gonna do one better and just install a whole new intake from Edelbrock (performer RPM,same one thats on their now).
I got the whole package: intake manifold, gaskets(intake and carb), sealent all shipped to my door for $260 from JEGS. Were gonna install it sometime this week or next, hopefully this will solve my problem.
Good luck with your install and let us all know how it turns out, alot of us here have the same motor and sometimes the same problems so its good to get the word out, you might just save somebody else some heartache!

What do you consider a stock engine? Im guessing i shouldnt push it past 4500 to keep things from breaking and keep it reliable, cause thats what im going for, realiability. I am gonna go with a ready-to-run distributor from MSD here in the next couple of weeks as you suggested.

I dont know if my motoe was prepped for it. I do have an oil pressure gauge, not a temp gauge. The pressure gauge stays at 80p.s.i. idle through 4800rpm, it does go up a bit at higher rpm's though. As far as the oil pan, the previous owner did install a Milodon, low profile 10qt. oil pan. The oil was just changed 3 weeks ago with only about 2 hours on the change.
How hard would it be to install a oil temp gauge?

Just curious to see what RPM's you guys get your boat up to and what the "safe" level is. I understand that most, if not all our motors are built a little diff. i.e. diff performance parts, ford, chevy, olds.
Last weekend i got my 460 up to 4800 rpm, she was really moving but im worried that this might be a little to much and that i might be creating more damage then the fun is worth. She seemed like she wanted race around at 4000 all day long. My best guess was that at 4800 we were probably going about 60-65mph with 2 people on board and less then half fuel and no other gear in it.
My 460 is a Hardin Marine engine with Bassett twisties, Holley 750 carb, and Edelborck performer rpm manifold. As far as internal performance enhancements i have no idea, the guy i bought it from hadnt said anything to me about it. I run a Berk jc-a pump. It does have a stock ignition system in it.

Yea, when i got mine serviced, JP Marine put a Bassett t-valve on there. Joe told me to leave the switch open at 3/4. The water does shut off at idle and comes back on at about 1500 rpm.

Looks like you already got started on this thread, thanks wild thang. Trust me that im taking to heart your lessons learned cause I AM a new jet boater with more engine then i know what to do with yet. I appreciate you sharing your experiences with us, no matter how hard they might be for you, who knows, maybe one of us will run into one of your situations and will be able to get ourselves out of it before any harm is done.
I dont know, i think there should be a full forum discussion/section/etc.(what ever you call it) devoted to accidents and mishaps, wether you experinced it, saw it, or heard about it. It might be good for rookies and the experienced alike. We have something exactly like this in the fire service.

Your idea on starting two new threads, one for talking about mistakes/accidents and what to be aware of and the other to talk about the temp issue would be awsome. I am curious about both, one for my own safety and the other cause i noticed this week that my boat, at idle, would run at about 190-210 degrees but at speed would drop down to 170 or so. Does this sound normal or is there an issue here that i need to remedy?

I noticed when i was at El Cap last Sunday that when i beached my boat to chill for a bit the wakes comming in from all the fat-sack loaded wake boats were starting to come over the back of my boat. I then realized that i had not parked in the most jet boat friendly spot. Hearing your story and with my experience last weekend it made me realize that i have to think a little ahead of the game.

I noticed when i was at El Cap last Sunday that when i beached my boat to chill for a bit the wakes comming in from all the fat-sack loaded wake boats were starting to come over the back of my boat. Good advice, i like the way you think! I returned the cleats for two 19 year old hotties from San Diego State! That was also very intresting what you said about being tied up to a dock, that would be a BAD DAY but its made me a little more aware when im around the dock, thanks buddy!
