I hear Vegas is the place to go for a Good Pump!

Last Sunday at the Long Beach Hi Performance Swap Meet there was a 460 Ford Boat Engine for sale. Does it belong to any one of the Members here??? Does anyone on here know who was selling this engine??? I believe the seller is out their often selling boat parts.
I may be interested in it. I have one cylinder with heavy rust pitting after cleanup on my boat engine. I was thinking it would be quicker to replace my engine so I could use my Jet Boat this Summer. I can rebuild mine later in the year.

Yes I probably should dis assemble the u joints and inspect them for any damage. One less unknown to worry about. I don't really know the history of this boat before I owned it.

I am also in the process of overhauling a WJ that had a low growl noise (noticeable at low rpm).  However I found the front bearing to be a little rough. 

If you don't feel that the problem is in the pump I would recommend checking the coupler (u-joints) for problems.  Also check your engine mounts and alternator mounts for looseness that could be allowing things to move around.

Thanks for the advice. I was really surprised to not feel any roughness while turning the shaft. I will check the Alternator, my engine mounts seem to be tight and have no movement. The u joint coupler moves freely but I cant really move it much. Everything appears to have been greased properly before I bought the boat 8 years ago. I stay on top of all the maintenance. I usually run out at Lake Elsinore. I wonder if while idling I'm sucking up some sand/dirt (I Hope Not) and this is making some noises??? 

I'm not sure if I can help. I would think the shaft is either bent or the bearing and bushing has a lot of play in it to let the impeller move around like that and touch the bowl. I have a Jacuzzi 12/WJ and mine has a low growl sound at idle sometimes. I disconnected the u joint from engine so I could feel for any roughness, play or noise and my shaft turns very smooth. I could not feel any play or movement in it. I now feel somewhat better about the bearing but I would like to know what this noise is. Did yours make some noise? I would think it would as the impeller touched and ground against the bowl. I would think that if everything feels smooth and the shaft has no movement or play in it, then sand or debris has ground between the moving parts and the bowl.

Has anyone ever written the modifications done to these Performance Pumps from back in the day?
Some of these pumps have gone over 100mph and I'm not talking about the ones gutted and Berkley internals fitted. I'm very curious to know just what people did to make them more efficient using Jacuzzi parts.

They were made in Garden Grove, California. I have a 1977 Charger and would like to know more about their History. Mine is 19 feet long, 460 Ford with a Jacuzzi Jet Pump. Is this a Good Hull Design? How many were made? Was anybody Famous involved with their Design or Manufacturing?
Yes I'm a Newby and have a lot of questions.
