Id love to buy it.. Just dont know if I could handle the project. Says all the throttle and steering cables are there, mount for a 460. Also said wiring harness and gauges are there, just need a new interior. How big of a project is it without the jet?

Theres a thread on PB of a guy who did a really thorough resto on a hydro....32 months! Just depends on how involved you want to get. Sanger used "Sanger Specific" Jet Intakes. A few months back I know Jim had one. other then that a 12JG is a 12JG.

If you just wanted to bolt it together and not do a "Complete" Restoration, Buy it. That one looks likes it in pretty good shape. Ive seen them together in not perfect shape for over 9k, Also in really nice condition, blown for over 15k. Dont think you could get hurt money wise with a hydro.

Transom, Floor, Stringers

After looking at the picture, Get a flash light and crawl under the dash. Someone has repaired the front sponton, Did they just fill a bunch of bondo in it? Walk on the floor. Check for any black spots on the stringers. Any other major damage/cracking in the glass, etc etc.

Yah, That primer spots makes me a little nervous. Iv done alot of body work, never on a boat though. Do the hydros have typical crack areas? Also, How hard is it to find a complete jet? Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

Not sure on the "typical" spots on a hydro. I would just pay a lot of attention to the floats, that they havent been wrecked into anything. I can find complete 12JG's all day long, anyday. Check here, Performanceboat, Jet Boat Performance, Ebay, Craigslist, Jim Brock @ Cyclone. Theres a lot of them floating around right now and posted up for sale.

Keep in mind, that the Hydro's and Shovelnose type boats arent your family cruiser type of boat. They should/will handle differently then a V Bottom/Flat Bottom.

i just bought a 78 sanger hydro however it is a v-drive, but same hull really just a tad different, and with all of my online research i have found that the sangers love to crack on the floor around the stringers...which mine has done too...what i would do if i was going to look at the boat is crawl underneath and inspect the bottom...then i would get inside of the boat, and jump on the floor! if it is stout you will know...one of my other favorites is to yank on the dash! from what i can tell you on my sanger if i look in the areas on the inside most of the way around i see daylight...seems like the boats are layed up really light...in fact the bow if you wanna call it that...we have a joke about mine being a drum! really with this boat and any boat you wanna pay close attention to any of the structual areas such as transom, floor, dash, stringers, bottom shape...there is so many things to look for, and if you see alot of stuff you dont like time to wieght out whether you want to do it with the cost of the boat....honestly i stole my hydro and if it was in worse shape i still would have bought it...they are really nice looking boats....one other thing to take into consideration is that these boats are not exactly comfort friendy not exactly a cruiser boat...they were designed to haul ass

Im not too worried about the rough ride. Im a bit worried about handling though. I love the way they look, and Im slowly finding out that I want to go faster and faster! The guys says he has a stock 460 laying around. Might try to see if he can give me all the parts to make it run and just upgrade the motor from there. Bad idea?

lemme lay it on you with all of my online hydro stuff i have read...because everything you read online has to be true

....i have not drove my hydro, and am a long ways away, but honestly the way i see fit you might as well throw away any handling characteristics at all while under power....the boats were designed to go in a straight line really....also seems that the jet versions have a little harder time airing out vs. the v-drive version...i know the v-drive version had a couple ways of dealing with the steering one was inboard steering meaning the rudder goes through the bottom of the boat and is inside of the boat, and outboard steering like mine...meaning the rudder is basically mounted to the transom....what i am getting at with this is whether inboard or outboard the rudders are fairly large, and while on a solid pass you are not steering the boat at all...i would imagine that jets are probably similar in this aspect...the boats in general are designed for straight line passes! at low speeds sure steer the thing all you want, but i am just stating my opinion on this....honestly i am just learning this whole ordeal myself, but i know when you see fast drag boats they are generally hydros...you do the math! i am by no means trying to steer you away from buying this boat or anything, but sometimes you half to consider what you are going to use the boat for

$ 3500 for a hull and trailer, in this economy ?? I know its cool looking, but its still a jet hydro guys.

The good.
Its cool looking.
It has an intake.
It has a trailer.

The bad.
I see primer.
Needs motor.
Needs jet.
Needs interior.
Very small, no interior room.
Heavy, bow heavy to be more specific
They sit really low in the water, dont think about taking that out on Bass Lake on a weekend. Your be fishing it off the bottom.
1/4 stringer boat, check the sub floor really good. most of the time it will be bad and you will be replacing the floor.

BTW, I remember that boat being FS last year, if I remember right it was around 4k complete. $:-\$

And Nordie, Yours is real hydro (different animal), this is a tunnel shaped to look like a hydro.

Ok, Thanks. Well see what he says for price when its complete. I know better than taking anything under a party barge to bass lake. Seen plenty of money headed to the bottom of that ocean. If he wants too much, Ill just keep looking. I really want a jet though, and these are cool lookin.

Dont get me wrong, there wayyy cool looking, and I would buy one if it was cheap ($ 1500 max in that shape). But they dont work real well as jets (lots of hulls out there that will be faster with the same HP). Bottom line, you can do way better then that for the money.

i was just kidding. i didn't mean to throw a wrench into your plan

personally i have two boats, jet boat (the jet boat is kinda like my toy) and the family boat (reinell i/o bright yellow can't miss me) because every year at bass i would have to wait for nice water to drive the jet around. now on the other hand if i ever have the cash and a jet hydro comes my way i'll have three boats not for the steering, not for the ride but because it'll be my 64' mustang or 69' camaro if you know what i mean!

stay with what you were looking for i'm sure you'll find a boat that will meet your needs.

i had the guy down to 2500 on the phone ..i bought another sanger picklefork jet in fresno turn key for $3k quickjet and i drove up and picked it up...got it runnin sweet and sold it for 4k with nice 454 berkley, the guy had it repainted and a blower motor in it and was out at elsinore for the tom papp memorial...3500 was way to much without the pump...my 2 cents

It takes stupid horsepower to get a jet "hydro" to work like a hydro...Nothing even similar to a tunnel bottom, tunnels are the bomb diggity, hydro's are for vee drives IMO.

GT, the Sanger jet hydros where tunnels, not "hydros". From what I understand there issue was trying to lift the weight of that huge hydro looking bow. Takes HUGE power and lots of speed to get them to lift (kinda like my new project

). But there still cool looking, and Id still but one if the price was right.
