That rod is part of the steering linkage. It pushes/pulls on a lever that transfers the motion through the transom to the tiller arm. There's more pics of it in the "for sale" ad over at RiverDavesPlace

What no thanks to me for hooking Mike up with the sweet deal so that he could hook you up on that 468??? That motor treated me excellent as my spare while my new one was built two years ago. The guy I bought it from didn't have all the setails on it but here is what I know. TRW pistons with small dome, scat crank, comp hydraulic marine cam, 781 heads ( have a bit of work done to them and you wont be sorry they are good heads for what they are), 10 qt pan hamburger, not sure on the rods. Make sure you put those 660's ( I would go 750's but thats me ) on that tunnel ram (nothing smaller) and you should be in the ball park of 550-600 hp. That should do just fine in your new found hot rod. Have a great time putting it all together. We are gonna have fun this summer!!!
