Anyone else have this problem....
« on: March 27, 2010, 05:21:05 PM »
For the life of me I can't get this shit flush. There is the gap that you can see and I was just wondering if anyone else ran across this and/or how can this be fixed. Its almost as if the threads on the shaft dont go down far enough.

mine is the same way, not too much of a gap. i think just to give room for flex in the column.

its a tapered shaft, its only gunna go down as far as the taper . I had the same setup on my last 2 boats, they had the same gap, and it bugged me as well.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Although the gap bugs me at least I know its not because of me.

Good to know. I thought I may have fucked up somehow. Now I'll put the wheel on and call that problem done.

  Same problem on Pickle when I had to change out helms for the new cable. Looks fine to me! My gap is bigger'n that!

Why don't you just open up the hole in the hub with some sandpaper ? ???

I'm sure Harbor Freight has some small mandrel sanding bits that would do the job. ;)
