Avenger day cruiser project underway
« on: July 19, 2009, 07:58:45 PM »
So I finally have been slowly buying every little piece for this project

I had the boat soda blasted to get the 5 paint jobs off but found a lot more repair so it'll be a while for the paint.

I then fixed the trailer and cleaned her up, put a set of electric brakes on, a winch, jack and wiring and lights.
Next had to replace the wood and carpet, the hardware was rusted out.

I then started on building the seats and glassing them to takee them to the upholstery  guy

They use "baking soda" as a blast media in place of sand of glass beads to remove the paint.

Welcome to the site!!  We're sorta homies. I grew up in Phoenix, OR. Still living in Oregon just not Southern Oregon.

Good luck with the project! Where are you going to boat at once you get it running?

Yea you were only like an hour away. I'll probably mostly go to emigrant and loss creek mostly with the occasional trip to shasta. I've been working hard on this everyday so we'll have to see how long it will take, with the paint being the only thing holding me back. I have just about every new peice for the boat to be replaced!

Ahhh that makes sense. I figured they weren't spraying it down with Pepsi but i couldn't get that image out of my head!

Sand and Bead blasting (Walnut shells, plastic pellets, etc) are good for cars but not for boats. Most of those methods will eat through the fiberglass in no time.

Baking soda will strip the paint but leave the fiberglass undamaged if done by someone who know what they are doing and pays attention.

The term "Media Blasting" just refers to the "Media" being used, ie sand, walnuts, baking soda, etc.
