i dont know the details, but yes, there is an issue with the 455's and their oiling system. it doesnt drain down quick enough starving the oil pump at high RPMs.

so ive also heard that you can smooth the inside of the block,put in restrictors and up the qts of the oil pan.anyone done this?

Try realoldspower.com and 442.com

Both have good recipes on how to build one. There are several ways to address the oiling problem, which is the biggest reason they blow up. You can build torque into them but they will never be the high revving motor that you may be looking for if you want to go fast in a small boat.

Actually yes. But I'm not going to post and repost and repost. The info is here, finding it is the trick.

PM me, and I can help get you steered in the right direction if you want to do this yourself quickly. The site links are extremely valuable as well! Otherwise, listen to GC and the others and let a pro do it.

Nothing wrong with the Olds in a mild to medium wild float! Probably more built initially with the Olds than either Chebbie or Ferd!

FWIW, I still have issues with Nitrous on Lake/River pleasure boats! I don't beleive it does much for you short of maybe 1/4 mile bursts with some dialing in of the drive for that burst. Might be fun on occassion, but the day to day use on a boat dialed in for that shot would not be a real fun ride IMO. either way, NOS, No Olds, IMHO!

The realOldspower site has an entire section on the forums devoted to the exact "recipes" people followed on their builds, many with dyno and track results. Also a boat only stuff for sale.

There isn't really a whole lot of decisions to make when building one for a boat. If your plans seriously include n2O I would abandon the Olds platform, but I am sure that either Tom or Dave could build you something that could hold up. It can be made to hold up, it just won't as good as what the other guys have and will cost a lot more.
