Post by: 454Rocket on February 02, 2008, 11:51:02 PM: I started with oven cleaner and had to use steel wool to get the good ol' 70's paint off. Washed it off with soap and water, then went over the area with rubbing compound to get rid of the swirl marks the wool left behind.

I have to thank Brad for the oven cleaner idea... MEK didn't even touch it.

looks great....glad the oven cleaner thing worked out for ya....i cant take credit for it though....The first time i read about it was from beerjet over on hotboat.

What does it do, remove the letter or the oxidation on the gel coat?

The easy off oven cleaner is to remove the painted on numbers on gelcoat.

John - I can do any font you want...and it will definatly look cooler then the block letters at west marine.
